Lo curioso de esta canción es que el resultado final es prácticamente un accidente. Normalmente, a medida que voy construyendo una canción y su estructura, también voy fijando lo que a mi parecer es una buena melodía para la voz solista. Una vez estoy contento con ella, entonces escribo la letra (si no utilizo alguna de las que ha escrito Simó) y se la enseño a Marina para encontrar el tono adecuado para su voz, porque por supuesto no voy a ser yo el que la cante J

Pero en este caso algo raro pasó, porque una vez tuvimos grabados los instrumentos y llegó la hora de grabar la voz, no había forma de encajar la melodía que habíamos pensado con el tono en el que habíamos grabado los instrumentos.

¿Qué deberíamos haber hecho? ¿Grabar de nuevo los instrumentos una vez encontráramos un tono más adecuado? Por supuesto que no, ¡qué pereza! J Como suele ser habitual en casos como estos, Marina simplemente improvisó una nueva melodía, que por supuesto era mucho mejor que la original.

Like a movie es posiblemente una de las canciones que más nos gusta a todos y siempre nos ha dado un poco de pena que en el momento que la grabáramos nuestro equipo de grabación fuera TAN modesto. Así que ahora que disponemos de una tarjeta de sonido un poco mejor y de la experiencia de haber grabado un par de maquetas después, decidí intentar remezclarla para ver si podía hacerla sonar un poco mejor. El sonido de la batería es el que es, y el del bajo por el estilo o peor J , pero creo que al final hemos encontrado un sonido más brillante y les hemos dado un poco más de presencia a las voces.

Supongo que algún día la volveremos a grabar… ¡qué pereza! J

Like a movie is an "old" song, from our second demo "Once again, with feeling" (2006).

It started as a Simó’s chord progression I played so many times, backwards and forwards, that I built the entire song without adding one more chord J

The curious thing about this song is that the final result is kind of an accident. Usually, while I’m building a song and its structure, I’m also fixing what I think is a good lead vocal melody. Once I’m happy with it, I write the lyrics (if I’m not using a Simó’s one) and I show it to Marina so we can find the right tone for her voice, because I’m not the one who’s going to sing it J

But this time something weird happened, because once we had recorded the instruments and we had to go with the vocals, there was no way to make the melody fit with that of the tone the instruments were recorded.

What should we have do? Record everything again? Of course not, what a bind! J As usual in these cases, Marina simply improvised a new melody, of course much better than the original one.

Like a movie is probably one of our favourite songs and we’ve always thought it was a shame that our recording equipment was SO simple at that time. So now that we have a slightly better soundcard and some more recording experience I tried to remix it and see if I could make it sound better. The drums sound is what it is, and so it is the bass, but I think we’ve come up with a more brilliant sound and we’ve given more presence to the vocals.

I guess we’ll record it again some day…what a bind! J
