Well, that title pretty much guarantees I've jinxed myself today....

Ah well, first day in A&E yesterday and despite my extreme reluctance to go, I actually had a pretty good day. I'm fed up with these general placements, I haven't delivered a baby since April, have had no continuity this year and the uni won't even tell me where my placements are going to be next year. I've heard nothing at all, not even, 'we haven't sorted it out yet'. Now, I think that's just plain rude.

Anyhoo, I was on 'Minors' yesterday which is where people go if they're just a little bit hurt. Or not really hurt at all but did something 3 days ago which they think might need looking at. It really did seem to me that no-one presented with an injury that was less than a day old - do these people not understand the meaning of the word 'Emergency'???? So, we saw several burns, a couple of cuts, some icky looking things and some ?broken bones, which usually weren't. It was kind of fun - I like injured people a whole lot better than I like sick people.

One of the highlights of my day was when a little boy came in with his mum. He was the baby that was born on my first ever shift on Labour Ward. The first baby I ever saw delivered - it was a scary crash forceps delivery, and the only time I've ever cried in a delivery room. He's now just over a year old and very cute. Mum remembered me and we had a good old chat. It was cool.

We also had a chap come in after a minor car accident. He was a real old school farmer-type, despite being only in his 20s. He'd hurt his shoulder so we asked him to take his shirt off. He was very shy and reluctant to do so as he wasn't used to undressing in front of ladies. I didn't like to mention to him that he really didn't need to worry about us seeing him topless since he had a hole in his trousers that meant I could see his balls....
