IN A RECENT CONVERSATION WITH MY FELLOW ARTEEST AND PARTNER IN CRIME, MATT DETERIOR, MD HAS EXPLAINED TO ME HIS OPINION ON THE WHOLE PUNK AND "PUNK" SCENE. HE HAS PUT IT IN SUCH A MORE DETAILED WAY THAN I COULD EXPLAIN WITHOUT MY LEAVING ANYTHING OUT SO READ THIS WITH AN OPEN MIND AND AND FUNNY FEELING IN YOUR PANTS. AND I, TUESDAY FELD, DO BELIEVE THAT IF ONE CHOOSES TO LIVE HIS OR HER LIFE BY A TYPICAL CLICHE STEREOTYPE, HE OR SHE DESERVES TO GET KICKED IN THE FACE. DAILY.

SID VICIOUS: ICONIC JUNKOID
(...With a kick ass style)
Written By: Matt Deterior
Title By: Tuesday Feld

I have nothing against Sid… just about what he has become. Sid is not a hero, he was a junkie – I can't stand all the romanticized Sid & Nancy bullshit.

But Sid and the Sex Pistols, I am a fan of the music and what they did (though Sid was a late addition and more eyecandy than anything else – lets be honest, he wrote nothing)

What the shirt is really about is that "Punk" should not have icons that "punks" emulate, what a joke, a movement to express yourself and you end up looking like just another herd of sheep. And seriously, one can pick up their "punk gear" at the nearest Walmart or Target nowadays (that's why I stopped wearing my pyramid belt that I have had for like 8 years, the one before that lasted me 7!), Hot Topic is just exploiting the herd mentality and the need for teens to feel that they fit into something. It is more punk rock to shop at the GAP or off any random sale rack! Haha! I really believe that. I dunno – I mean I've had the same leather jacket for 12 years, I grew up in a scene of respect and not putting up with image whores - trying to look tough or always trying to prove how different they are by wearing an outfit or getting the right piercing. It's just doesn't mean anything anymore… I mean when the guy at the local American eagle has a lip piercing and a full sleeve – come on. Punk is a feeling, a state of mind, punk is action and working with likeminded people to change or fight against what you don't fall inline with – PUNK IS MAKING YOUR OWN WAY. (that's why I started "problem", so like minded ppl could change things – I could care less how they dress!)

So that is my long rant filled answer of sorts… SID was sid and it is not his fault that his image has become what it is, so it is that image that needs to be called a pussy – no different than a Victoria Secret model or anything else the media tells you that you have to be. Punk spawned from the dissatisfaction of the system… the system has taken the shock value of the image and turned it upon itself, making it just another tool to herd people into a box.

I am not saying that dressing "punk" is bad – I mean I have the tons of clothing that ppl would call punk – I am just saying that trying to be anyone else is pathetic and the shirt was created to hopefully make ppl think about what the "punk look" represents now… and what it has lost.

I hope you enjoyed my book!

Ha - I am actually using that as notes for my next zine article.

and an after thought -

If you are worried about how "punk" you look, don't worry, you're not.

Now I'm going to go listen to some Adam Ant!
