this was the first round piece for the slam finals
i hadn't written much this year, and i can't see myself reusing the same poems over and over for the same contests. so i pulled out two pieces that had never seen final stage. i had a third piece in my pocket, but it was a little negative and inappropriate for someone with students in the audience...know when to hold em, know when to fold em....

i always liked this piece, but it got pushed to the back of my list of poems due to new shit being written.

once i got to the third round i decided i earned a repeat, besides it was written for Youth Speaks Hawai'i, and these poets have their finals on 4/11 at Kaimuki High show starts at 7p
