Current mood:Poorly

After much consideration and soul-searching I sincerely regret to announce that I am unable to finish my November tour.

I've been suffering from difficulties with singing and speaking caused by a cyst in my throat and for the last couple of months have been attending Ear, Nose and Throat clinics both on the NHS and last week in Harley Street.

I have begun voice therapy and physiotherapy but have been told that the cyst is being exacerbated by water retention and swelling caused by my pregnancy, and while the normal treatment for this includes anti-inflammatory drugs this is not possible at the moment and the only thing that will drastically improve my vocal health is to have my child and rest, and see the specialists again in the Spring.

The physical effort of trying to sing past this obstruction is just too much for me at the moment and what I am able to produce as a sound is alarming and inconsistent and leaves me exhausted and in pain after every show.

I am assured that I will return to full vocal health after my daughter is born, and would love to have the opportunity to honour my commitments then.

My apologies to everyone.
Eliza

Very sorry to hear of your throat problems -- but I'm sure you're right to take a good break. Looking forward to seeing you back on stage and hearing your superb singing in Spring. Very best wishes for the birth.

The most important thing is that you take care of you and your baby. We'll see you later when you've recovered!

Hi Eliza, Sorry to hear about your struggle with the voice. Take things easy as they tell you- have the baby and you'll likely find a great improvement after that.
Good luck with the baby - you must be getting close to the time now?

Hope all goes well - we're thinkin' of ya!!

Forgive my ignorance Eliza, wasn't aware of your troubles. Speaking as a mother and a musician - look after your baby and I'm sure you'll get your gorgeous voice back in no time.
Much love,
Téa xx

Don't worry, just enjoy the whole baby thing. It's brilliant. I expect. I've only done the dad bit of it which, experts tell me, is easier. Either way, it's brilliant. Have fun and you'll be in fine voice later when you're ready to be. A daughter, eh? Fab.

Dear Eliza, God bless you and your baby !!! Just enjoy the beautiful English countryside and meditating on the birth and your belly expansion & lots of massages with scented oils, candlelit baths, teatimes slow & relaxing, and loving your self !!! I always got laryngitis when I was stressed and couldn't sing then, something that did help was called "tea and sympathy" which was Grand Marnier (shot) in a cuppa hot tea, but since you are pregnant, I guess you can't slowly sip that, however warm ginger tea is terrific for the tummy and the peacefulness. Put flowers round your rooms, dance naked and just keep loving the life you are creating. Everything will work out, hang in there, sweetie !!! Love, Melinda xxx
