'Essentially an evil indie disco....a darn sight darker than most' - The Guardian Guide

Shot By Both Sides – London's premier purveyors of arcane, outlandish and fantastical musical delights - launch another sordid soireé, on Thursday December 18th. This continues their residency at the Amersham Arms in New Cross' warped wonderland - their Christmas Spektakular, if you will.

Expect a thrilling soundtrack of wonky psych, gritty '60s garage, gnarled folk, girl groups, rockabilly, C86 indie and Northern Soul, poetry, stories, SECTION FIVE magazine handout, cakes, humanoid monstrosities, literature/tape exchange, some peculiar visual treats, a few out-of-the-hat surprises and some sensational live sets from…

THE LEA SHORES

After touring with everyone from Kasabian to the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Peckham’s finest grace Shot By Both Sides with a (almost) homecoming. This is a gargantuan psychedelic masterclass that is both shamanic and hallucinatory. Their colossal walls-of-sound with string-laden, pastoral, almost druidic folk undertones will be the sound of 2009; prepare for their forthcoming Ben Hillier-produced LP.

Blissed-out psychedelia with festival-friendly anthems” - NME
…Evokes faraway ethereal places with sweeping soundscapes created by guitars and violins, which are topped-off with the dreamiest of vocal harmonies. Go check them out – this band collects fans wherever they go” – Clash
The Lea Shores are my favourite new band…the music is psychedelic and layered…distorted guitars and harmonies but underneath it’s almost folk music. They should be big…they’re already fucking epic!” – Andy Bell (Oasis/Ride)

THE TAMBORINES

Black-clad Brazilian trio unearth some tremendously tripped-out noise. Sitting somewhere between The Velvets, The Byrds and Ride, their fusion of strung-out 60’s acid-fried sounds with Paisley underground leanings is a heady voyage. Take a step into the ether and watch your mind expand!

The Beatles, MC5, Spiritualized, Primal Scream….this anthemic indie-rocker is up there with the best of them. Sounds like The Byrds on some very bad acid. Amazing” – NME
A sound that no other bands are replicating at the moment” – Is This Music
Not only is this a grower, but the psychedelic overtones will make this a firm favourite before the second listen is over” – New Noise
Impressively Mancunian-sounding shoe gazing with a modern spin” – Subba-Cultcha

AN EXPERIMENT ON A BIRD IN THE AIR PUMP

Gloriously imaginative, inventive and sinister all-girl trio bring their beguiling sound south of the river. Astral soul vocals are fed through a no-wave mixer to create one of the most genuinely spooky sounds you could hope to hear. The future of post-punk: a truly gothic experience.

Bad Seeds meets the Shangri-Las nightmare. A No-Wave Ronettes….bewitching” – NME
“Top notch goth post-punk” – Artrocker
London's new girl band, fusing post punk with grunge and gothic rock' - i-D Magazine
Dark, minimal surf rock with soul vocals. It’s a little like the aural version of a David Lynch film: atmospheric, scary, and arty as fuck…” – The New Thing
