The great jazz pianist/composer Dave Frishberg has a song called "I Want To Be A Sideman", which really says it all. I mean, it's great being a band leader and everything, but there is a certain freedom and relaxation that comes from just being a side guy. In the coming weeks I will have that opportunity on several occassions. I have always wanted to be able to mix it up and match it up with wide circle of musical compadres, and over the past year or two that's kind of what's happened. So in addition to the dates I am doing around the release of my new CD, I'll be adding quite a few "side gigs" to the calendar as well in the weeks and months ahead. So many tunes, so little time...
