Are you a strange and unusual person who lives in the Missoula
valley? Do you follow an obscure religion or your own heart? Would you
like to learn more about your civil rights and help to keep Missoula
weird and diverse? Then join Opus Aima Obscurae on October 2nd as we
assemble on the 100th anniversary of Missoulas own free speech fight.
Exercise your civil rights in honour of the repeal of the
unconstitutional "soapbox ordinance," which once banned our freedom of
speech and expression from the downtown area. Come be a part of
Missoulas Civil Rights History as we meet on the Higgins Street Bridge
at Noon, to support the Janette Rankin Peace Centers "Women in Black,"
and make our stand for peace! Then, we will walk down to the corner of
Higgins and Front, to view the new commemorative bronze sculpture and
watch local street performers reenact Missoulas fight for free speech!
Finally, well meet again at 4:30 pm
on the corner of Higgins and 3rd Street. Our grand procession will
weave throughout the downtown area as we participate in First Friday by
informing people more about their civil rights. This direct action is
part of our campaign to open a chapter of the Civil Liberties Defense
Center in Missoula Montana. The CLDC works to confront attacks on our
freedom and to protect the civil rights of all citizens, particularly
activists exercising their constitutional rights. We became aware of
the Civil Liberties Defense Center last year when they activated their
phone tree in protest to the unlawful impounding of the Wilson Family
PermaCulture Bus. The family was targeted as terrorists for traveling
through Minnesota while teaching sustainable living techniques on their
nation wide Direct Action tour. In honour and support of their cause,
we are working to organize a local chapter of the Civil liberties
Defense Center to help Montana Citizens protect our civil rights! The
CLDC provides free legal advice and free or reduced-rate legal
representation, to those citizens exercising their civil rights.-They
help the progressive social change movement become more effective by
educating people about their rights. And they have helped to organize a
movement that confronts the threats to our freedom, from the USA
PATRIOT Act and other right-wing initiatives. In the words of Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr., "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice
everywhere." Join the Fight for your civil rights! This October 2nd in
Downtown Missoula!
