Song Birds
I can't forget,
And won't relieve myself a time,
Those waking moments,
Eyes peeled and heart a-pound,
When fight was king and flight took it's place in the corner,
How I watched every window,
The eldest of the brood,
Porcelain siblings,
In bed,
Weighing (A)s against (B)s,
I choosing (beating) or (bullet),
Sleeping when I could, In the standing position,
Mama swelled by impact,
Dog dead by poison,
'Something evil this way comes'
And I clawed it all the way,
Prepubescent warrior,
Half my weight........A pool of want,
But peering,
Out every window,
For shadow in motion,
For broken tooth smirk,
For the devil to make his move,
For hours,
And they woke in the morn,
My porcelain siblings,
And ran my bath,
And mocked me,
For not wanting to stir for the song birds.
Shoulders Stout
And on the days that I dress myself for the world,
Show them a stance,
Shoulders stout,
Chest abound,
Biceps fit to hold hips in place,
I am forever without your lord,
Despite my meek disposition,
A meekness spawned by the deepest of faith,
In you,
To do the right thing,
With unconditional consistency,
I demand it,
Condemn you short of it,
That be the law,
No request here,
Only commandments,
Sit tall in your seat my friend,
They'll be watching you with piercing discern,
And will be callous in word upon your every attempt,
That is the way of the watcher,
To condemn the doer,
And seek to steal what has been done,
Braze against such,
Dress yourself for the world,
Show them a stance,
Shoulders stout.
I don't remember now how we ran across each other recently, but I do know the more I read of Kellett's work the more I thought what a talented writer he was. These were just two from a long list of really good poetry.
I always like to share good things with my friends so I very much hope you enjoy these and hope you all will continue to read his future work.
