MORE DRAMA FOR YOUR MAMMA EDITION....drama queens

As we reported yesterday, there was a major backstage altercation that took place between former ECW announcer Joey Styles and former WWE Champion John Bradshaw Layfield while WWE was overseas in Iraq over the weekend. There are new details on the actual scuffle that took place between the two.

JBL is known for being a lockerroom bully and he was giving it to Joey Styles all week. Over the weekend, Styles had enough and got in JBL's face. Several WWE employees jumped in to break it up and JBL, who had been drinking, broke free. He then charged at Styles, who punched him right in the face and knocked him down. JBL ended up with a black eye and a cut under his eye, which were somewhat visible on Monday's RAW. I've heard that Styles may have been wearing a ring but I am still unable to confirm that. JBL wore heavy make-up during the broadcast and tilted his cowboy hat down a bit to conceal his face. JBL spent most of Monday night by himself in the locker room, being very quiet and spending most of his time on his Blackberry phone.

Apparently there were a number of different things that JBL did to Styles during the course of the Iraq tour, all of which would have set a normal person off. Some of JBL's hazing was verbal and some was physical.

In a related note, there is an unwritten rule among WWE superstars that anybody who falls asleep on the airplane en route to an overseas tour is subject to pranks. It was reported last week that WWE ring announcer Lillian Garcia fell asleep on the way to Iraq and JBL dumped a bucket of ice on her.

Mickie James has posted a poem on the WWE Universe site entitled Taking Flight. The poem comes off a bit cryptic at times with the following stanzas: Besides... I am so tired of flying. My wings ache... No one truly knows how I long to land. I cant.. No! I won't let them... But its all I've ever really wanted. This time... I will not land in a trap. Only to be put on display as if I were a trophy piece.

Shawn Michaels has pitched to wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25 in Houston, Texas. Obviously 'Taker would go over Michaels but the feeling is that the payoff for both Superstars would be very nice. 'Taker is expected to be around full-time for at least another year or two.

» Since returning from maternity leave, Stephanie McMahon has tried shaking things up in the creative department. Stephanie is pushing for them to come up with better storylines and is not allowing them to phone it in on any programs.

» With the feeling that Steve Austin will be a part of WrestleMania 25, and with the recent drama between WWE and Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling, the feeling is that Hogan will not be a part of Wrestlemania 25 because the company "doesn't need him."

Following recent comments from the one and only Vince McMahon, DH Smith is pretty much a lock to return to the main WWE roster in the near future.

Smith, as well as tag team partner TJ Wilson, are scheduled to be called up to the SmackDown roster very soon. Upon their call-up, the two will be paired up with WWE Diva and long-time friend Natalya. The act worked a dark match prior to last week's set of SmackDown tapings, losing to WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito and Primo. Their eventual call-up all stems from a situation that occurred two months ago.

During a flight home to Connecticut, Vince McMahon was in a bad mood due to what he considered to be a bad week of television tapings. McMahon looked over a sheet of paper listing the entire roster -- including developmental talents down in Florida Championship Wrestling. McMahon saw the name Harry Smith, and railed on the creative team for letting this "Pedigree kid" sit on the sidelines. McMahon called Smith a "Pedigree kid" because he's linked to the legendary Hart family and people from wrestling families are always favored (which explains why so many of them have landed developmental contracts despite little to no prior wrestling experience). Well, McMahon went on and on about the creative team letting good, young talent such as Harry Smith waste away or get jobbed out.

Following McMahon's rant, Smith & Wilson were put together as a team in Florida to get them on track for their eventual call-up to the main roster.

In what was likely a first, Smith was actually called to the main WWE roster in late 2007 as a result of a failed drug test (he failed for the anabolic steroid Stanozolol, which is commonly sold under the name Winstrol). Following the Signature Pharmacy drug scandal, WWE said they were going to start publicly announcing all future WWE drug suspensions on November 1, 2007. As luck would have it for WWE, a week or two following the announcement, Smith failed his drug test. WWE held off his suspension for several weeks so they would have a main roster wrestler to announce to the public once the provision went into effect. At the time, Smith was still in developmental, so they could have quietly suspended him, or wait until November 1st, but he would have been a minor league wrestler at the time and his suspension would have likely been ignored by the media. WWE decided to call up Smith and give him a push right off the bat. He debuted on television in mid-October, got two straight wins, and was suspended two weeks later. This was to show everyone that wrestlers "getting pushed" could be suspended too.

Smith returned to the active roster in late December, but did little of note until being pulled from the road this past May. After his return from suspension, Smith would primarily wrestle on Heat. In his three wrestling appearances on Raw following the suspension, he actually never got a lick of offense in on any of his opponents. Umaga squashed Smith in under two minutes in February. He was pinned within thirty seconds by John Cena in that memorable Cena & Orton vs. "The Entire Raw Roster" match back in March. In May, he was written off of television as JBL beat him so badly he had to be carried out on a stretcher (which actually wasn't broadcast on TV, but rather, a small WWE.com video). For a a few weeks prior to his exit from the main roster, Smith began wrestling as a tweener, alternating between face and heel roles, and calling himself "The Canadian Bulldog" in hopes of giving a better identity.

In a recent interview, Smith claimed he made the call to return to developmental, feeling he needed to re-focus, mature, and develop his skills to be ready for his eventual return to WWE.

As noted earlier, WWE has plans to release WWE Legends of WrestleMania, a video game based on legends and alumni who have appeared at WrestleMania in the 1980s and 1990s. It will be released in March 2009 to coincide with WrestleMania XXV.

An updated list of characters for the upcoming Legends of Wrestlemania has been released -- 35 in all. The list of characters are as follows: Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, The Rock, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Undertaker, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Ultimate Warrior, "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, Mr. Perfect, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, Yokozuna, Haku, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, "British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, Jim Ross, Sgt. Slaughter, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, "Mean" Gene Okerlund, Honky Tonk Man, Earthquake, Iron Sheik, Legion of Doom, "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart, Gorilla Monsoon, Mr. Fuji, Tito Santana, Joey Marella (as referee), Virgil and Howard Finkel.

Perhaps the biggest omission from the video is that of "Macho Man" Randy Savage, who competed at eight WrestleMania events in all and left the pay-per-view spectacular with the WWF Championship belt on two occasions. Another huge name that won't be featured in the game is Mick Foley, whose WWE contract expiration coincided with the deadline for characters to be featured in the video game.

It was reported back in September that Vince McMahon made the decision to pull Foley from the video game as a result of their personal fallout. He also made the decision to ban Randy Savage from the video game for reasons unknown.

The October 2008 issue of Power Slam had a note on the two legends' video game omissions in their "This Month In McMahon" column, which details the wacky behind-the-scenes exploits of the McMahons -- more specifically, Vince McMahon's unpredictable behavior. They wrote:

September 3: Mick Foley and his agent announce that Foley has signed with TNA. The rumour backstage is that Triple H's condescending treatment of Foley -- arising, allegedly, from Levesque's insecurity over the instrumental role their 1999-2000 matches played in making him a headliner -- is partly to blame for Foley's decision to leave.

In retaliation, Vince pulls Foley from the upcoming Legends of WrestleMania videogame and, furthermore, orders Randy Savage banned from the game as well -- rekindling decade-old rumours about some too-unpleasant-to-be-named scandal involving the McMahons and Savage in the 1990s.

John Bradshaw Layfield has a new blog entry on the WWE Universe site, but does not bring up the incident with Joey Styles. Instead, Layfield says he will send people his Layfield Energy product for free because he believes it will change their lives. At one point, Layfield weighed 330 pounds. He then took a product he personally developed and felt good for the first time since he remembered. "I got up one morning after that, weighing 330 pounds, and realized I needed to do something because I didn't like the way I looked or how I fel. So I took the product I developed; Layfield's Energy-Plus No Pain and Focus, and went across the street to do cardio at my local gym here in NYC. For the first time since I could remember I felt good, I didn't hurt and I had energy," Layfield wrote. "I repeated the process the next day. Same thing happened. After about six months when I finally weighed in below 250 pounds, I realized I was on to something. My concoction of Layfield Energy was, in my opinion, the fountain of youth." Layfield has lost 100 pounds and he plans on doing a photo session later this month documenting his 100 pound weight loss. Layfield added, "I want you to try it too. I am so convinced it will make your life better that I will send you some for free. That is how much I believe in this product. I will send it to you for FREE! Go to www.layfieldenergy.com and check it out now. I can tell you from personal experience a better life is to be had for those who try Layfield's Energy."

Recently released former on-air ECW General Manager Armando Estrada is scheduled to make an appearance this Saturday in Puerto Rico. Estrada will be appearing at World Wrestling Council's (WWC Abdullah the Butcher retirement show in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Other stars scheduled to appear at the event include Carlito & Primo Colon, Team 3D, TNA referee Shane Sewell, Sabu, former WWE wrestler Balls Mahoney, and Steve Corino.

RF Video will be releasing a shoot interview with former ECW Superstar Colin Delaney. For the first time, Delaney will discuss his rise to fame in World Wrestling Entertainment and how he captured the hearts of millions all across the world. He will discuss how he got his break in WWE, working with the likes of Tommy Dreamer, Big Daddy V, John Morrison, The Miz, Kane & Mark Henry, his stay in the ECW brand, and more. And that's not all. Here is a brief description of the interview: "Why did Colin turn heel on his best friend? What was it like to do promos with Vince? Who did he travel with and how hard was it keeping his spot in the WWE. He was only in the WWE for 8 months but everyone will remember the name Colin Delaney."

TNA star Kurt Angle has been telling friends that he is seriously considering returning to WWE once his TNA contract expires next fall. Angle has even gone so far as to state that he would jump ship to WWE if he had to make the decision right now.

Angle joined TNA in the fall of 2006 and has been unhappy with the creative direction of the company for quite some time. He's been vocal regarding his frustration with Jeff Jarrett's creative direction both publicly and during private conversations with Dixie Carter.

WWE officials would welcome Angle back to the company despite the negative things he said about Vince McMahon and his WWE experience when he left two years ago.

WWE would put Kurt on a limited schedule similar to those of Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. The obvious concern is whether Angle would have any Wellness Policy issues given his past problems with prescription pills.

Edge has been good friends with Christian (Jay Reso) and Kizarny (Nick Cvjetkovich), who we profiled last month, since childhood and he would like an opportunity to work together with both of them in WWE.

"If I could have Nick, Jay -- I mean we grew up together," Edge optimistically told Kenai Andrews on Slam Wrestling. "You never think all three of us could actually be in the same place."

The key in the mix is Christian, who Edge hopes will return to WWE, but also understands if he re-signs with TNA when his contract expires at the end of the year.

"He (Reso) has to do what's best for him," Edge said. "If it's being down there (TNA), than that's what he's got to do. But if it's being up here with us, I'd prefer that. It'd be great."

Edge isn't concerned about "rehashing" the Edge & Christian team, complete with five second poses and kazoos and weight-cutting and Mick Foley. He feels confident enough to reinvent the team if that were to occur.

"I have enough confidence in what I'm doing I won't let anything be a step back," Edge said. "If anything, just take it and make it work. I've tried to take that mentality with anything, even if I look at something and go 'Ooh. Ow. Oh well, make it work.' Just go full-bore with it, because if you sit there and piss and moan about it, it's probably not going to work."

Edge pointed to the Vickie Guerrero love interest storyline as one example of taking something and making it work as much as possible, saying "Like I did with the whole Vickie thing, it's like, 'You cool with this Vickie?' She said, 'Yeah.' I said, 'All right, that's cool.' She said Eddie would get a kick out of it, I was like, 'Sure, yeah, all right.'"

Here's the AP story on John du Pont, the murderer of Kurt Angle's Olympic wrestling coach David Schultz, being denied parole. MEDIA, Pa. (AP) — John du Pont, the multimillionaire chemical heir convicted of murdering an Olympic athlete in 1996, has lost a bid for parole. A jury found du Pont guilty but mentally ill in 1997 in the shooting death of gold medal-winning wrestler David Schultz. Du Pont was sentenced to 13 to 30 years in prison, but first was treated for three months at a state mental hospital. His attorney, Tara Wochok, says du Pont's parole petition was turned down last month. Delaware County District Attorney Michael Green says that was because of the brutal way in which Schultz died, and because the 70-year-old du Pont has not shown remorse. When he was killed, Schultz had been training at a wrestling facility at the compound where du Pont lived. Police arrested du Pont after a two-day standoff.
WWE stock has turned around in recent weeks, even though the company is not in substantially better or worse shape than it was a few weeks ago. It closed at $11.08 per share today, but hit $12.34 per share yesterday, it's best number in nearly a month. Three weeks ago, the stock hit an all-time low of $8.76 per share.

The WWE site has a feature on The Boogeyman as they look at his most notable moments in his WWE career. Boogeyman wrestled his first match in over fourteen months at this past Tuesday's ECW taping, defeating local wrestler Scott Reid in under a minute.

WWE has plans to release an official replica of the new ECW Championship in the near future.

The latest issue of WWE Kids Magazine has a feature in which CM Punk and Hornswoggle debate who smells worse. "CM Punk stinks," says Hornswoggle. "True, but Hornswoggle smells worse," replies CM Punk. As a result, WWE has created an online game – CM Punk vs. Hornswoggle Stink-Off! You can play the game at http://www.wwe.com/magazine/articles/punkvshorn

Talk within WWE is that some writers have wanted to do something with Stephanie McMahon and Triple H for months now but haven't had the time or the right place for it. The seeds were planted months back with a few references to their relationship that were inserted into promos. Two weeks ago on RAW during the exchange between Shane and Stephanie, WWE acknowledged Triple H and Stephanie's relationship again.

» WWE's television production crew had been and still may be under strict orders to not show full body shots of Stephanie McMahon's during her television appearances. Stephanie is said to be self conscious about her pregnancy weight, which is she is still having trouble losing. Her second pregnancy was never mentioned on television and she doesn't want to come across as if she's putting on weight. Since returning to television over a month ago, Stephanie still has yet to come down ringside, let alone wear a non-black slimming outfit.
