Who Gives Kudos:

Sunday, March 29, 2009
i am in new york and it is quite late. much later than in england. for although it is nearly 6am in england that is considered early. i would rather be up at 1am than 6am. today we went to central park and played american football. that was really great. yesterday too was a good day. i walked around manhattan with my ipod listening to sam amidon, gregory and the hawk, regina spektor, death cab and peter broderick and then sat on a bench in madison square and wrote a lot of words down in my diary. they don't really mean anything but it was very cathartic nevertheless. then we went to the metropolitan museum of art. the visit was tinged with sadness for me, because i can't draw at all. and so many great things involve drawing. it was pretty inspirational though. it made me wish i could draw. then we came back to the house and played drinking games. i only drank four beers but drank them in a very short time so i got quite drunk. that wasn't good. there are some bad videos somewhere i think. yesterday was also lifechanging because i went into the chanel and prada shops on fifth avenue wearing nothing but a $2 new york manhattan t-shirt, tights, a $15 vintage lumberjack shirt and my friend joe's hoody. i looked like a state. but they still welcomed me in and let me admire the $3125 chanel 2.55 bags and deerskin purses. and the doorman wished me a lovely weekend goodbye. i have decided that i quite like new york. it's quite similar to london in the sense that there are a lot of people. it's a busy place.

last week we went to austin, which was also a great place. some highlights for me were seeing sam amidon live, it was incredible. he did press ups in the middle of a song. if i could marry anyone i think it would be sam amidon. i also managed to see lisa hannigan who was quite boring. she played this harmonium with a big red mushroom on top. her songs were lifeless, as was her soul. we also saw laura marling and mumford and sons twice, first in a big church and secondly in a pizzeria out of town. that was so good. then we met them and i went really quiet and burt told them that i was quiet because i was afraid. that made me even more afraid. i also saw gallows who were very loud, and dirty projectors who were quite good, and slow club, low anthem, miserable rich, and anathallo who i think are my new favourite band. they were unbelievable. also rolo tomassi were really good. we were on the same plane on the way there and kept bumping into them. it was really funny. maybe they were stalking us. maybe not. we also went to perez hilton's party and i peed next to ida maria in the toilets. we also saw little boots, ida maria, yelle and kanye west. kanye was incredible. so were the oatmeal cookies backstage. i ate two.

you should almost definitely listen to this song -

in the meantime, i think that we are flying home tomorrow. apparently we have to sleep on the flight so as not to suffer from jet lag. i don't think this will be a problem for me. i am having really great dreams at the moment, last night i dreamt that i had a subway map drawn on my wrist and to activate it you had to wipe your thumb over someone's knee. unfortunately i was sleeping next to simon so i think i kept touching his knee in my sleep. he didn't really enjoy it.

i miss england a lot. i am looking forward to going home and seeing all my friends again. i have spent the last five weeks solid with the same five people. they are really lovely people but i think it will be wholly beneficial for everyone to spend time apart for a bit. i am going to go swimming when i get home. and eat fruit. and watch desperate housewives and play the piano and do lots of kissing in the street even though i hate public displays of affection. i met three boyfriends in new york. one was the man who works in abercrombie and fitch with the very ripped body and pelvic bones that drew your eyes downwards, one was a man who was seven foot tall and a basketball player, and the other was a man who kept  popping up in my dreams. he had a moustache and a pocket watch. the problem is i don't know any of their names. but who needs names when romance is involved. that's what i say.

i think i am going to go to sleep now. burt and sophie are at a gay bar, simon and matt are watching efterklang and peter broderick and sam and amy are asleep. i wish i could have seen peter broderick, but i am under 21 which is rubbish. what is also rubbish is the fact that i have beirut tickets for his forum show on may 8th, but sam amion and nico muhly are playing union chapel on the same evening. sam amidon is my favourite artist of the moment but i have never seen beirut. it's a tough decision. i will sleep on it.

sorry this was so long. i obviously had a lot to get off my luke leighfield adorned chest. [i am wearing a luke leighfield jumper] i will put some photos up when i get back of our trip. i hope everyone has a great easter holiday and that you get lots of easter eggs. it is my birthday on sunday. maybe i will just get eggs as presents. maybe not.

goodbye goodbye
