Who Gives Kudos:

Friday, October 13, 2006
G'day, Rolf here.
I thought I'd just do an update to tell you all how stunned and amazed I've been by your reactions to our 'Slaughter on the Ice' track. I can't believe the staggering amount of hits!

I check regularly on all the things you type in and I've been hugely moved by the way you have taken the cause to your hearts. The fact that quite a large number of you had no idea that this horrific slaughter was taking place EVERY Spring, means we've got to get this information through to a lot more people if we're ever going to get this barbaric and pointless business stopped. Public opinion on a massive scale is the only thing that's going to work.
We've been working with IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and you can now download ..Slaughter on the Ice.. if you go to: www.indiestore.com/rolfharris All proceeds will be donated to the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW..s) Stop the Seal Hunt campaign.

Steve Lima who wrote the music .. who is probably better known for his 'mash-ups' under the name fuTuRo .. and I are working on another mix at the moment and we'll keep you posted on all developments.

I can't tell you how thrilled I am by your reactions. I wrote that original poem in a fine frenzy of disgust when I first became aware of this slaughter way back in 1971. At that time, I had no idea what to do with the poem to try to change world opinion.
Thankfully technology has moved along apace, and suddenly Steve and I are able to actually DO something which might make a difference, and all you people, at the touch of a keyboard, are able to make contact and express your sympathy with what we're trying to do. Good on ya!
As it says in 'Slaughter on the Ice', "Shall we do it, you and I?"
Thank you and lots of love, Rolf

Hello Rolf,

It is wonderful that such a nice man like you has the passion to take this cause on.

You are so well liked and people trust you. I grew up with ''do you know what it is yet?'' and look apon you with fond childhood memories.

It is so sad to think in 1971, 6 years before I was born this slaughter was going on, I'm just about to turn 30 and despair that in such a beautiful world full of such amazement and beauty that this horror is still aloud to continue. It is suffocating to imagine the shear horror of witnessing such acts, I wish I were brave enough to take them on face to face and I applaud all those who are strong enough to witness and fight for the little ones lives. Thank you Rolf for being such a nice guy and someone people can look up too!

Kathy x

Good stuff! Rolf.  We must stand up and be counted...I too had verse 'pop in' twenty years on from "Slaughter on the ice", and like you I didn't know what on earth to do with it.  My verses is short but not sweet, trouble is I've had 17 yes, 17! pop in since.  Because of your courage and the inovation of MySpace, I can now get 'Human' people to also stand up and be counted with me.  Thanks for being my friend.  Please read  'A Group Of Humans'.  I promise you and all of your friends I am not an animal rights extremist or anything,  I am just an ordinary bloke twho writes and want's to make a difference.  All 18 are in my blog.  Just one thing...they are written in the first person (Or should that be animal?).  No it can't be, because not ALL of the subjects are animals.  Join in and see if you can gueese what they are.  A Seal pup is in there, it  was one of the first creatures to 'pop in' in 1991...Love and respect Bob Richardson.

Rolf, I have kept Slaughter On The Ice as the song that plays on my personal site and you in my top 24! I personally feel it is one of the best protest songs ever written!

"Shall we do it, you and I?"

YES!

Can't wait to hear what other remixes you've got up your sleeve. I saw one on the internet that some crazy animator had made by cutting and pasting your Richard and Judy TV appearence and overlaying a new beat. It kindof distorted (ie. obliterated) your original message but still acted as good publicity for your cause - I wouldn't have learned about these atrocities otherwise.

Keep up the great work Rolf, you are my hero.
