Well Hello Again,
So the Fringe is nearly over. We're heading into the last weekend and I thought I'd just sit down and let you guys know about some of the brilliant shows we've seen since we got here. There are so many wonderful performers here and so many wonderful hours of entertainment to be found. We tried to see as many shows as possible, which wasn't that many. We did manage to see some great stuff though.
A few of us were lucky enough to get tickets for 'Pappy's Fun Club' (http://www.myspace.com/pappysfunclub) a few days ago. For us, as a sketch comedy group, it was a revelation to see them. It was incredible. I've never had such fun at a show before and I've never seen performers enjoy performing so much either. We've never really seen sketch comedy done that way - perhaps that's why they call themselves "post sketch comedy". They've been nominated for the IF Comedy Awards over here and its no surprise. Fingers crossed, they'll win it. http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=gxOMmAP6No8
Another great show - not quite as awe-inspiring as Pappy's - but still one of the best shows we've seen, was called 'The Slippery Soapbox' by a seven, yes seven, piece sketch group called ShutYoFace (http://www.myspace.com/shutyofacecomedy). There was so much energy in the show - something that I think we lack sometimes - it was, once again, a really fun hour.
There is no sketch comedy scene in Ireland at all. So its so interesting and important for us to have the opportunity to see some of the best sketch comedy groups in the world everyday here. Its both inspiring and terrifying. We've learned a lot.
Away from sketch comedy - the highlight has to be seeing Stewart Lee (http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=ltT9dMGiFjI) perform. He is an absolute master of his art. He does things on stage that I don't think any other comedian could even think about attempting (see the above link) - and he pulls it off, time and time again.
We still have some shows to see before we head home. There are dozens we wanted to see that we just didn't have the time to get to. Either way - being here and seeing these other artists - it has been one hell of an education.
Talk to you soon,
Diet of Worms
