Current mood: sad Category: Pets and Animals
Friday night I went out to feed the horses as usual and our older gelding did not come when called. I found him out in the pasture lying down in obvious distress. I haltered him and got him up and over to where he normally eats and where there is more light and it became clear he had colic. The vet was called immediately but was busy with an injured cat who needed surgery. We kept him as comfortable as we could but it seemed a long wait for the vet. When she arrived she confirmed colic and then we had to choose the route to take. We opted very sadly to have him put down due to his age and suffering . It was an awful night but I we were so relieved when he was free of pain. I hate to think or see anyone suffering maybe more so innocent animals. We sent him on his way to be reunited with his horse family and our old Newfie dog with which he was a good friend, with heavy hearts. Blessings to you old boy. Thank you for all our years together.
