Current mood:  accomplished

For those of you who haven't yet heard, our very own Kathleen Culebro (Artistic Director) has just opened her play, La Llorona, at the Beckett Theatre, 410 W. 42nd Street February 1st and runs through the 24th.

A cross-cultural tale, The Crying Woman/La Llorona follows the story of an American executive who relocates with his pregnant wife to Mexico City when his company assigns him the task of opening an American fast food restaurant there. At the centuries-old hacienda, the couple not only share the home with a Mexican architect and his young family but also the titular spirit, "who sings her song of sadness in hopes of rescuing the two couples from danger," according to show notes.

Alfonso (Wicked) stars with Tabandera (Mamma Mia!) as well as Julia Barnett, Trevor Jones, Mauricio Salgado and Germán Nande.

The design team includes Zhanna Gurvich (set), Vasilia Zivanic (costumes), Jeffrey Koger (lighting) and Chris Rummel (sound). Ron De Jesus (Movin' Out) choreographs and Cindy O'Connor ("Crash," "Racing Stripes") provides original music.

Mexico City native playwright Culebro has also penned A Leopard Complains of Its Spots, The Blank Page, Three Chairs and Just Because You're Paranoid (Doesn't Mean They're Not Out to Get You).

If you are in the area, tickets are available by calling (212) 279-4200. For more information visit stageplaystheatre.com.

Hooray and a huge congratulations for Kathleen!
