I needed something funny to post on the blog, so here it goes, a short story I wrote for kids based on one fact: Laughter is contagious

Barrel Of Laughs

Enjoy

It first started out as just a little chuckle
No sooner than that, off popped his buckle
Then a big cackle, followed by a roar
There lay Mr. Humphrey laughing on the floor
Rolling around, holding his tummy
Something it seemed was extremely funny
But what could be making him laugh so hard
With nothing in sight but a barrel in his yard?
Then up walked Lenny, the tailor, from town
Lenny was known to always wear a frown
When he saw Mr. Humphrey rolling in the grass
Something inside him wouldn't let him walk past
Curious, Lenny asked, "What"s so funny, good fellow?"
Mr. Humprey just laughed and pointed at the barrel
"The barrel?" said Lenny, "why, that's quite absurd."
"What could be funny about some metal and wood?"
But on, and on, Mr. Humphrey kept laughing
Then all of a sudden something amazing happened
The frown Lenny wore began to turn up
The sight of Mr. Humphrey was funny enough
He started to chuckle and then came a coo
And soon the good tailor was rolling around too
Then up came Miss. Langley, who ran the country store,
Startled upon seeing grown men on the floor
"What"s" so funny?" she demanded they tell
But all they could do was point at the barrel
"And what's inside it?" the fair lady asked
"Nothing!" they exclaimed- and continued to laugh
"Nothing?" she said, "How gloriously absurd."
"I do think that's the funniest thing I've ever heard."
And laugh she did while she stood and swayed
No two people laugh in quite the same way
Then up came Johnathan from the fish store
It only took a look to make the group four
Tickled by the sight of such a foolish looking bunch,
He joined in with the others, laughing at once
Then Suzy and Sherry and Tommy and Terry,
All joined in, happy and merry
No one knew why the other was laughing,
But, oh what a wonderful time they were having
Soon the whole town was gathered around
Silly Mr. Humphrey had never heard such a sound
And the sound that he heard made it all so much funnier
And it made the whole place seem oh, so much sunnier
And happy he was, that everyone could join in,
To laugh about nothing with a whole bunch of new friends!
