Last week I unexpectedly found myself writing, directing, editing, and yes, even in acting in another short.

This is not the beginning of a habit of me acting in my own films. I did this only out of lack of time.

I made this film for the Broad Humor Film Festival's "Legacy Project". With 10 days to go before the festival (happening this weekend), Susan diRende, the festival director, convinced me I still had time to make this film and get it in to her.

Now the film had to be under 5 minutes and have the French language and Pez in it.

A week ago Friday, I wrote a script about a brother and a sister having a political argument over the phone. I don't think I made it funny enough and the political debate certainly wasn't intelligent enough, either. But the point was to show them disagreeing. It was kind of weird because I don't want to express my own political beliefs in my films, but I feel I wasn't really doing that here, as the two characters had totally different opinions and I didn't make one of them "win". If anything I wanted to express my desire for peace among us who have strong beliefs either way. Like, hey, we can still love each other, right?

My own brother, Stephen, played my brother. This is the first time we've worked on a film together.

We filmed it last weekend ((Jeremy did the camera work) and then I edited it when I could on weeknights, then uploaded the film, in a rather unfinished state (I didn't even adjust the sound levels -- and there's no music) to Susan on Thursday night.

Even though I filmed LIKE HIS FATHER on a 1 chip camera (using the in camera microphone) and still got it into a few festivals, I don't think this film will be playing at other festivals besides Broad Humor, today. I mean, I think my script for LIKE HIS FATHER was at least good, and there's something about APPEZMENT (the name of this film) that screams, "I was a film made with a certain set of criteria!"

Now I'm not one to shoot films as quickly as that, in kind of a 48 hour style -- I've not had interest in any of the 48 hour film projects. But it can be a good exercise just to feel forced to do a film in a short amount of time -- good for your brain and movie-making muscles.

So anyway, I added APPEZMENT to my screening list. It screens today in Venice at the Electric Lodge at 6pm. And SALLY'S DREAM HOUSE is playing at 2pm.
