I suppose it happens to everyone that stays in the music business long enough. That magical moment you walk out to your car after a successful gig, so thrilled that you made enough money to pay for food and gas for the week, elated you sold a few cd's and picked up a few new fans, only to see your car window smashed and your musical instruments and equipment stolen.
Ah, the joys of being of musician. I guess it’s just a fact of life that some people are good and others are not. Stealing is one thing but, stealing someone’s instrument is like taking a piece of their heart. We work hours to save up enough money to buy that special guitar that’s been haunting our dreams for years or in my case that keyboard with the perfect blend of acoustic and old timey piano sound that took ages to find. We take these instruments into our hearts and homes like they are part of our family.
There are so many memories attached to instruments. I wrote my first song on that keyboard. I had so many great gigs and even more crappy ones like playing at a bowling alley slash Chinese restaurant in Eagle Rock! All in all I suppose they are all great memories that I will cherish forever.
Those memories you can’t steal from me.
I did gain something from this experience other than knowing you can leave in your car! Thank God, I took out my guitars and amp. I learned that I have some incredible friends and fans and a huge support system that I can count on. There are so many amazing and loving people in this world that I simply can’t feel jaded in the slightest by this experience.
Here is one example of the compassion I received. It made me cry after such a hard day:

Thanks for the love everyone it’s inspiring.
If you need me I’ll be on craigslist, at my local pawn shop or at City Hall trying to get cameras installed in the downtown garage.
Love,
Delaney
