Last night's Rivals (Wed. Sept. 10th) battle of the bands at Lotus Sound Bar was a lot of fun. Four excellent bands played to make it to the finals on October 1st to win the grand prize of $1000. Thanks to Red Light Go!, Affront the Weak, Hale the Reign, and Degenerate Machine, who all played really awesome sets.

Congratulations to Affront the Weak (below), who were extremely dynamic on stage with choreographed headbanging during their songs, for winning the night and moving on to the next round!


Judges Maleko (of Star 101.9, HNLnow.com, and HDRadioFreeHawaii.com), Darin Au (7th Fret Guitar School & the band Thicktubes), and a random audience member voted on stage performance, musicianship, and how engaging the band was. All were very impressed.

Thanks to everyone who came down. Next week Wed. Sept. 17th, the second round will feature a really diverse group of bands ranging from indie rock, screamo, to reggae, to hip hop:
