'morning people

my string of April shows is over...my old friend, ROB LADD filled in for JIM BROCK & sounded great...JAMIE was there every minute as always...we had a great time playing & we had some pretty good sandwiches...we saw old friends like BARDEN WINSTEAD & BLAND SIMPSON who were generous & put us up...the RED CLAY RAMBLERS loaned us there trusty van...we met a new friend, NORMAN CHAMBLISS, who gave us the run of his beach house for a day...extraordinary...

we raised some money for Stop Hunger Now...

i almost choked to death at the CLEVELAND show...on stage...

we managed to find time to work on some recordings...JIM WANN's new show "The Great Unknown" & a new TRUETONES album...

i love to sing...anyone that has made it to a show realizes that whether they enjoy it or not...i love to sing with the band...the chatty nature of this note hides the fact that i'm depressed that i won't be able to go out like this any more...i can't afford it...as much as i appreciate those of you who make the effort to be there, there aren't enough of you to keep this up...

i've got a few more shows to play over the next few months so i hope to see some of you in person again...thank you for the support over the decades...

dd

Say it ain't so Don...you can't quit wowing us with your talent. I hope I'll get to see you in the Charlotte area a few more times before...I can't even say it. You are one of my favorites and I've loved every show I've attended. Hope to see you soon. Phyllis

It's such fun to see you perform, and your love of doing that is evident. I'm glad to see that you're working on new stuff. Frankly, I think you're kind of unstoppable, and I enjoy how you express yourself (I'm looking forward to reading Songs 101 precisely because of that). My hunch is that you'll always find outlets for that expression; you'll feed your soul, and the diet will be varied. :)

WOW...a Sad Day indeed for Dixon Fans & Music Lovers alike.....A year without a Don Dixon show will be like a day without sunshine to me....Not only a great musician, but a Dear Friend I will see less of each year saddens me even more. I appreciate all the ops you've provided me over the last few years to do photography at your shows, but most of All for your Friendship during that time....Luckily have the My Pics / Live recordings & Memories to help the withdrawals when they set in....Definitely see you in June @ the SC show.....

Your photographer & Friend....

Don, it is us who should thank YOU! You have a true gift. The passion and energy you put into your music is inspiring, and you've got more soul than any other white man on the planet! It really has been a privilege to see you play. Even if you can't tour, please don't stop making music... and be true to yourself. -- Forever fans, Joel & Laura, Manassas, VA

son, it's tough days for all live music all over the world. there's a recession on! but that ain't the real reason. we did one of the best soul shows i ever played last night in NYC, city of 8 million people. 9-piece band. had about 32 people pay the cover. think we're going on the road? i'm doubting it. but i ain't taking "no" for an answer. weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs, solo shows, retirement homes, and just whistling while you scrub the pots. there are ways to sing, bud. always. you've got a great duo partner at home. and marti ain't bad either....

It must be frustrating not getting the crowds in places like Cleveland and the Northeast, but surely you get the fans out in the Carolinas (as always). Here's hoping that you still find it worthwhile to play to your many fans there....

however, whatever is best for you, what you need to do, is what your fans would want.

you've already given so much to us all already.

take care, Don, and Godspeed.

Steve

P.S. ...almost choked to death in Cleveland? OMG. again, take care.

I sincerely hope this is one of those "Stephen King retirement announcments things" and you'll just pretend you never said it and we never heard it. I've just only recently met you and I certainly can't let go yet.If only I had jumped over the fence in my backyard on Oakland Ave in 1974 you were probably jamming at Reflections with Arrogance. But my jumping over fences days are over, friend and so it seems maybe you need a hoist as well. Let out a yelp. We'll be here for you. Much much love. Terry

Don, WOW...what can I say. After "losing" you and your Arrogance band mates for decades, I rediscovered you this year. The 40th reunion show was a blast and your latest Jump Rabbits album (Nu-look) is as good as anything that you have ever done. Although I live in Charlotte, I missed the show last weekend at the Neighborhood theatre due to a scheduling conflict. I thought to myself..next time. I truly hope there will be a next time.

don,
most of us know and understand that it costs to be a performer, and it also costs to be an audience.. this recession is not good for any of us. your decison, i hope, is a temporary thing. it seems we all need to step back and wait out this big mess to resolve itself. when the sun finally does shine again, we'll be waitng for you to hit the road and at least perform in nc. ..in that meanwhile of waiting, keep writing, keep recording/producing and keep those wonderful vocal chords in tune. in the meantime, you *will* be muchly missed.

Well, DC isn't that far away, right? You could always do a few shows in the NC/VA area since it's w/in day trip territory..... I missed your latest show at Jammin' Java due to schedule conflict, but I was at the last one. I promise to be at any future show -- honest!! Let's see -- I made most all of your shows in this area through the 80's. I saw you at the 9:30 with Lloyd, Hoover & Crenshaw, and then at Jammin' Java. All were great shows!!

Prove yourself wrong, please?
Being wrong is sometimes the best thing in the world (oh, believe me!)

Both on the stage, and off the stage - you rock.

HI Don, I was there at the Berkeley Cafe and Joe and I found the show really energizing and happy. But the economy grinds on. What can we do to help? Having rediscovered you and the Arrogance clan once again, I want more! More more more - we need you!

Don't give up on us quite yet - there is a groundswell of old fans ready to get rededicated - just hang on. I would be happy to make you a million sandwiches and then some -
Love,
Eleanor (The hugs were awesome!!!)
