I realize its been quite some time since anything has been said from the Dark Empire camp.  In a nutshell here is what is going on:

- we are still looking for both a singer and a drummer
- we will without a doubt commence production on the next album in 2010.  With session musicians if need be if the previously mentioned singer/drummer slots are still unavailable.
- it will more likely than not, be self-released again like Distant Tides.  We are discussing the format as well.  Its painfully obvious that CDs are on their way out, while vinyl is making a small comeback in the collectors market.  One idea we are kicking around is to do just a digital-only release combined with a *very* small run vinyl pressing for anyone who wants to own a hard copy.  We'd love to know what you think of this idea.

In related news, as many of you might know, I keep myself fairly busy as an in-demand guitar teacher.  I have done a small handful of guest columns on some guitar websites and am looking into others as well.  More details on that will follow when ready.

I've also branched out into online webcam based guitar lessons.  After both receiving cam lessons and giving them, I find there to be very little lost from not being in the same room as the other person, surprisingly.  I have over 6 years of teaching experience from beginners to very advanced and can instruct on a wide range of topics including:

- chord theory (how chords are built, voice leading, diatonic and non-diatonic progressions etc)
- scale theory (diatonic and non-diatonic, pentatonics, major modes, melodic and harmonic minor modes, diminished and whole tone scales, etc)
- modern rock/metal lead techniques (alternate and sweep picking, legato, tapping, etc)
- improvisation
- songwriting and arranging

If you are interested in taking webcam lessons, please email me at mmoliti@mac.com for rates and availability.

And last (but not least) we've been reviewed recently @ ourstage.com  check it out:

keep it metal

I don't particularly like the sound of a digital only release due to the amount of piracy from an artist's point of view. If I was in the area I would start guitar and definitely hire Matt to be my guitar teacher!

..While I agree CDs seem to be on their way out, they are not out yet, and I am not into vinyl at all. I much prefer to pick up an actual CD to a digital download. ..

Sounds like a solid review to me, but then I am incredibly biased. Can't believe it's been a year already since that package arrived through my door.

I know the digital-release front has been rising indefinitely. Seems like a good investment, and personally, I love owning original, hard copies, and I would certainly approve of a vinyl pressing.

Hey Matt.
Long time since last update.

Back on subject: your growl is good enough and you could be lead singer in the same way as Alexi in CoB or Petrozza in Kreator. What do you think about it?

Dark Empire SEEK VOCALS AND DRUMS!!

Dark Empire is a predominantly melodic vocal band and will remain that way.  I have no desire to do anything that is purely death vocal oriented at the moment.

If I was old enough, I  would totally drum for you haha
Too bad you can't find a singer, you can't sing yourself I'm taking it?

If we were a King Diamond tribute band I could probably do lead vocals ;-)

Honestly I don't see chances to find someone as good and charismatic, as Jens.
This is "mission impossible".

I'd like to have the next Dark Empire release on vinyl. Heck if somehow Distant Tides came in a special 2 LP set (original and remastered) and Humanity Dethroned came out on vinyl, I'd die happy.

Best of luck on the continued search for a singer and drummer.

What's up?..
....Yo Matt hit me up on AIM - send me those tracks so I can become the next vocalist for Dark Empire!....I've been preparing myself since the Summer!....
....I'm not a huge fan of the digital-only release either, but if we work real hard at it we could get the 3rd album on CD I know it! I feel it in my gut... and my balls!....
....Hope to tear up the stage with you guys!....
