When comparing November of last year to the present, the 2009 Faire Season was a time of greater enthusiasm. And, now considering an appropriate word for the pending 2010 Faire Season; “disheartened” is reasonably descriptive.
Our anemic economy still weakens consumer confidence, and is placing greater significance on spending for home and hearth first. Then, an unpopular management decision by ARF CEO Jeffery Siegel frustrated friends with unexpected disappointment. It’s’ not surprising the community reacted negatively by shifting its support from Faire to Brick n’ Mortar; this being local 7x24x365 community businesses.
RESCU is a continuous and ongoing need; not measured in giving on 1 or 2 occasions. And, the Crafts people and Musicians represent unique and valuable assets, whose talents serve the greater Renaissance Festival community well. Supporting them today and now; is the only way of making tomorrow happen.
There was no clear consensus to begin or postpone Auction Thyme 2, a Yule and RESCU donation event. What speaks so profoundly about the approaching 2010 Festival Season, is increasing satirical humor referencing the BARF (instead of ARF). The celebratory mood of the community so apparent at Midway Affair to Faire has evaporated; leaving a residual indifference.
