We just added "NDN Alien" from our new double-disk album "[Silence] is a Weapon".

Indian Alien was originally written by Native American folk singer/songwriter Peter LaFarge (Ballad of Ira Hayes etc.).
Peter passed on in obscurity even though he influenced folks like Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash. Read more about him here: www.peterlafarge.com

We took Peter's words and changed them a bit and wrote our own music to them, the song was originally only one-minute long with no chorus.
We really feel like the words are very important today; with ongoing racism against Indigenous Peoples especially with the anti-immigrant movement.

Check it out and leave a comment to let us know what ya think!

Respect.

Hey there,

NDN Alien is one of my favorite tracks off of your new album after Common Ground. I really do hear you on that point about ongoing racism. It's so frustrating and a person can feel that frustration in the way you have made the song, I think. Humans have been around for so so long and yet they still have not been able to get over prejudice. It's an illness that debilitates our society.

Unity is a beautiful thing. This will sound funny but I actually dreamt of you guys playing a show once and you had this song that unified the entire crowd about how you would fight and make music for as long as there was injustice. I think Blackfire is so great because you stand for something and you have a purpose. I feel like this is pretty unique for this day and age within the realm of music or other forms of "entertainment".

So thanks for opening eyes and ears with your music. It helps everyone.

Peace,
Danielle

I am delighted to have discovered your music, this song is superb as is the rest of the album. Going to buy the others now! Sorry to say I am descended of the race of the colonisers (English) not the indigenous but I have native friends - I admire the message of your songs as much as I do the music.

I am non-native, with my best friend being an incredible Cayuga woman. We've been friends for 30+ years. My first experience with racism happened while walking down the street with her back in the 70's. It made me ashamed to be white.

I love your music and respect your fight for all human rights.
Keep up the great work, and I hope to see you again at Fingerlakes Grass Roots Festival!
