Drink Up Buttercup
Sosey & Dosey

One Track Mind
Now that, friends, is the definition of a hook. The B-side to the new Farewell Captain 7-inch
from Philly's Drink Up Buttercup is so simplistic on a narrative level
— a couple goes for a walk one winter's eve to listen to carolers, the
couple slips on ice, the couple falls — but the frenetic refrain
totally drives the song to absurd levels of awesome. "Sosey, Dosey,
keep on fallin', fallin'!" cries the mocking jeer from some anarchic
urchins, pointing and laughing at the fallen couple from the carousel
they commandeered across the street — at least I presume that's the
source of the song's hellbent circus organ and marching band rhythm.
The taunt, a mere six-word phrase, is also simplistic, I'll admit. But
when you hear it 16 times in a short tune, delivered first with poise,
then expanded to a Zombies-esque harmony, you won't shake it.
