So i was reminded the importance of being properly prepared the other night at a gig. I was told that there would be two turntables and 2 cdj's set up at this after hours I was booked to play at.
The set up was exactly like I was told, but it seems as though the live act playing before my friend had disconnected the cdj from the 4th channel. When it was time to plug things back in, the cdj's RCA cable was nowhere to be found. Uh oh! My friend only brought cd's and only one of them was plugged in. Luckily I had a few pieces of vinyl in my bag he could play while we buy some time looking for the sound guy & the RCA cables. All in all things worked out, but I kept thinking to myself what might have happened if I hadn't brought some wax with me. It could've been disastrous for him & the party.
In light of the situation, I'm making this a full time rule (no exceptions):
If I'm playing a new & untested spot (or there's a live set earlier in the night), it's a must to bring enough vinyl to buy 20 minutes of time or so. Not only for my own benefit, but for other dj's and the party as well.
