i've been thinking of my old friend lately, its been awhile since he has passed. i just finished putting some of his poetry to music in a new song called "somewhere near regina" from his first book "hoping for angels". one of my favorite writers, order his book "the joy that cracked the mountain" you'll be glad you did, even if you think you don't like poetry, this is a great place to start.

SOMEWHERE NEAR REGINA

How once you lay
in a wheatfield
with a long forgotten mate
on warm August earth
as waves of a gold ocean
rolled over you
somewhere near Regina

Walking free wide rings of fire
around us
stubble fields
smoking in the sky

This is a memory

A white horse
in wind-blown night field
neighing at the turquoise moon

Later the dance hall
drinking outside in the truck
the sweet scent of burnt stubble
in her hair
