When I tell people that I compiled a book of recipes from over 100 bands, they usually say something like, "Are they all recipes for ramen and tofu scramble?" Well, yeah, there are couple of suggestions on how to enhance ramen (thanks to NOFX and Strung Out), and tofu makes a few appearances, but there are also some really hearty winter dishes in this book.
On a cold night, I like to warm up with the Decemberists' Pork Loin with Poblano Chilies, the Violent Femmes' Wild Boar Ragu, or Imperial Teen's delightfully vegetarian Eddie Vedder Stew. (And if you've got access to a venison roast, you'll definitely want to check out Rahim's Sauerbraten.)
And for a fancy holiday feast, it's really hard to beat Patrick Phelan's Swanky Mac and Cheese (pictured here). Some of the ingredients -- the lobster, the gruyere and fontina cheeses, and the optional truffle oil -- are pricey, but it's worth a splurge for a special meal. Of course, if you're on a budget, Maplewood 's Night-Before-Tour Mac and Cheese, which is totally delicious when made with a block of store-brand cheddar, is pretty great, too.
So, if you need inspiration for a holiday dinner or dessert (I recommend Les Savy Fav's Butterscotch Pie) -- or if you're looking for a good gift for your favorite music nerd, foodie, or even a particularly cool parent, I Like Food, Food Tastes Good is available on Amazon and in book shops and independent music stores across America.
