I have ceased visiting my Mother at Westminster Canterbury ... I am giving the Christians what they want: not to have to break bread with a sinner.


They owe me an apology.

On Wednesday, April 15, my Mother went on an outing sponsored by Westminster Canterbury. A walk in Peaksview Park.


She ended up falling 6 feet down into a ditch filled with weeds and wet leaves. After crawling out, she had to walk almost a mile to get back to the Westminster Canterbury transportation vehicle.


Fell 6 feet into a ditch ... walked 1 mile back to the vehicle.


Westminster Canterbury.

 

I am now officially banned from going onto the Westminster Canterbury grounds.


They claim I have threatened their staff when I said if he doesn't stop glaring at me, and getting others to glare at me, when I go through the food line in the cafe, he might end up with a tray of food in his face. I then also told the vice president Deane, he is welcomed to keep his VP head up his ass forever, when he minimized his staffs behavior, saying they were christian and wouldn't do any of that, including modeling for a queer (my paraphrasing). This glaring and odd erratic behavior of the staff, had been going on for 2 months, and I had requested it be stopped at the end of month 1.

If your agency does not cover the Independent Living Section, who in the government does? I cannot afford a private Attorney. Seems like a State or Federal Government would have an Agency that would investigate safety concerns at such a facility.

Just hope the man riding around among all those who can barely walk, with that motorized SUV sized chair, with the Walker hanging off the back, doesn't run anyone down, or kill someone while angrily ramming the device into the elevator door, repeatedly, while trying to back out, pinning the walker between his SUV and the half shut door, spring loading it into dangerous compression.


Boom ... shattered legs and hips ... all in Independent Living. Then they would be covered by your office: then they'd be in Assisted "Living".


And all while the Staff is busy bullying me while I tried to visit my Mother, and missing the important stuff.

The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and its Division of Licensing Programs (DOLP) is the regulatory agency for Assisted Living Facilities (ALF) and our standards cover only the ALF portion of the Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg operation serving residents who qualify for assisted living. I want to wish all the Mom's in the area a very Happy Mother's Day, but especially to those who have gay sons and lesbian daughters, who may not be able to make it home to Lynchburg for your special day; or may not want to come home, to Lynchburg. Please forgive them.

You know, those who have moved away seeking a more gay-friendly, or at least tolerant, atmosphere not offered in Lynchburg due to all the misinformation and subsequent abuse of gay folks like myself, by people practicing local religions such as Christianity. When I lived in DC, most of the community was made up of people from somewhere else: mostly people who were ostracized by their hometowns, and found refuge in a larger metropolitan area.

As an artist seeking to develop his talents in this area, and share them with his community, I find this rejection to be truly frustrating and almost incomprehensible in the year 2009.

Now that I have been ostracized from my Mother's Retirement Community, unknown to me beforehand, a "Whites Only" community, I especially feel the rejection so many of my LGBT friends felt while trying to Live and Let Live away from their homes.

Sorry I cannot come over across town to visit you Mom, they said I cannot even come near your place. To the Administrators at Westminster Canterbury, "Onward Christian Bullies, Marching as to War, With the Cross of Jesus, Shame on You". And to you Mom, maybe they'll eventually let me come in through the back door to visit. Of course, we'll have to go somewhere else to break bread together.
 

My Mom is now in Skilled Cared at WC, and since its the law for a State monitored facility (the Independent Living side is not), I have been given "permission" to visit her, with Restrictions.

I have to be met at the Lobby, and be escorted to and from her room. I may also eat with her, but only in the Café immediately outside her room. They will prepare a meal for me, and bring it to me there.

I disagreed with the OMBUDSMAN named Karen, who is trying to arrange for me to visit my mother. I told her to tell them, Mr. Heinsman, manager of the Skilled Care, that I Reject their Offer. It is allowing them to continue slandering me to other staff members. I also asked her to tell them "that's allowing me to come in through the backdoor" and "that is Mighty White of Them".

They admitted they do not know any of the details of how I was mistreated, except as I described them. I simply said, that's part of the problem ... they aren't listening is the other part.

I told them I need to have a written apology from the offending staff member, saying he apologizes for slandering me to other staff members, and I also need full range attendance of the WC grounds, not hindered by either Security Guards or other staff members following me around. I also need an apology from Denis Deane for slighting me for being less than his religious beliefs of Christianity. With this in hand, I would promise not to bring a Slander Lawsuit against them.

Otherwise, I cannot say that I will not pursue civil action.

My Mother agrees that I was treated unfairly.

Mr. Wolfe:

After reflecting on what was said during our brief discussion Thursday, I regret that you are satisfied with the minimum compliance with regulated Skilled Care, and that you do not see fit to monitor my Mother's safety based on my complaints of anti-gay sentiments being expressed by staff around myself, my partner, and my Mother during my visits since February 2009. I have been seeing my Mother there since 2003 with no complaints about my behavior over that period of time. Among a few other difficulties which seem to be escalating to the point where I am concerned for my Mother's safety, have I only had problems since I actually complained about them.

Of course, since she has been in Skilled Care, I have been continuously banned from visiting, which technically means I could not know of any malpractice against my Mother. Since my sister is responsible for my Mother's being there, I have no formal say on the matter, and cannot move her.

Another problem arose when I was attending my 12-Step meetings Thursday night. Someone who I believe gave my Mother Physical Therapy for her cracked pelvis, spoke about how tired she was working there. She also swooned over a man named Mark Early, who has made it his mission to get rid of me from meetings, as he also openly hates gay people. He is the type who uses others to retaliate against me, and I would not be surprised if he would use her to do so against my Mother. He has threatened me when I asked him to leave me alone, and threatened me on all occasions of encountering me, at which time I attempted to take him to court. This failed to stop him, as he brought his "followers" in to lie for him and committed Perjury.

I wish you would reconsider about setting up a monitoring of my Mother's environment, but I understand, technically, you could not be held accountable, as it is not against any laws to discriminate against anyone based on their sexual orientation, and to be supportive of those kind of people, would make you looked upon unfavorably in the event you should want to live at Westminster Canterbury some time in the future.

This Mark Early I speak of is a dangerous man, and cannot be controlled by other members of the fellowship. He bragged that he has a "Following" and that he is their "Leader", which further indicates his intentions. We normally do not have "followers and leaders" in 12-Step recovery. No one normally gets rid of people they do not like as he does. No one else sexually harasses women on a regular basis, controlling and manipulating them as I fear he may be inclined to do with this female Physical Therapist, to retaliate against me.

I spoke to the LPD about it later Thursday night. Standard response: nothing criminal has been done, so they are not responsible.

Referring to a recorded conversation with "Karen", the OMBUDSMAN for this area, no one has spoken to the staff about the alleged incident of a threat. All decisions about my visiting my Mother in Skilled Care, since May 13, are solely based on gossip, and State Law requiring visitation rights with "reasonable restrictions".

To accept their "offer" of escorted visitation only and meals prepared and delivered to the private dining room in Heartside, would continue the Slander and be an admission of guilt.

I never threatened any of their staff.

I did tell Denis Deane, VP, he was welcomed to keep his head up his ass for as long as he wanted to, after he belittled me for being less than Christian because I am a homosexual.

Note: I have had no verbal contact with David Reeves past the initial request of asking him to call me outside of work, about the Artistic Modeling job offer, and his asking for my number a second time. At no time did I threaten him.

1. David Reeves needs to send me a written apology for Slandering me to other Staff Members and Residents in and around the cafe at WC. Its effects were: made me uncomfortable and feeling unnecessarily intimidated, made people turn away from me when I ordered my food (they also slopped my food down on my plate at times while glaring at me), and when picking up the dishes, one man dropped everything in front of me, and picked up everyone else's used plates and dinner ware, and then walked away. These things all occurred immediately in the vicinity of Mr. Reeves. He also needs to indicate he is not interested in my job offer of Artistic Modeling by stating "No Thank You", that he takes it as a compliment, and that he no longer needs my phone number which he asked for a second time. He also needs to state he will not dance around me when he is required to pick up my tray after meals, as if he is interested in something else, and he will no longer get others to act out against me.

2. Katrina, Director of Entertainment, needs to send me a written apology for embarrassing me by introducing me as "someone who enjoys playing with himself in public", when I did my solo Euphonium Recital for WC. I have this on a recording, and will be happy to present it as evidence if I need to take civil action on this whole matter. She needs to stop running away from us with a sudden scowl on her face, as if something is wrong with me or my Mother, whenever we happen to cross paths.

3. Vice President Denis Deane needs to send me a written apology for implying that I was less than his ideals of Christianity since I am a homosexual, and for being mistaken about what their Staff was doing was of no consequence, and subsequently spreading the misinformation that I pose a threat to Westminster Canterbury Staff and Residents, when I ranted and raved about it.

4. The Cafe Manager whose name escapes me (the loud black woman who often praises Jesus in the middle of the Cafe), needs to apologize for her part in this problem as well. I strongly suspect she encouraged David Reeves to continue his antics. In addition, her rudeness at a recent celebration which my partner and I mistakenly showed up to have dinner with my Mother, was reprehensible. Her telling me I could stay anyway, and help myself to all the alcohol I wanted, it was an Open Bar, was also threatening to me. I don't care for a drug pusher to act that way around me, my partner or my Mother. Alcohol is a drug.

5. The "ban" on my visiting my Mother at any and all parts of Westminster Canterbury, needs to be lifted in writing. I need to be free to come and go from Westminster Canterbury, eat dinner with my Mother whenever and wherever meals are served, and when I complain of discrimination, an intelligent Staff member needs to take care of the situation immediately. Instead of showing up and talking to the cafe staff, then coming out and staring at me with looks of perplexity, as I leave a dining situation as you did several times. If you feel the need to follow me around to take notes on your staff's behavior, feel free, but I do not accept your offer of coming and going with an escort. You've done that because you are required to by State Law to let me visit my Mother in Skilled Care only. Requiring me to have an escort, continues the Slander and will not be tolerated. As it stands now, I am banned from Westminster Canterbury INdependent Living and Skilled Care.

You have had no problems with me for the past 6 years my Mother has been a Resident of your facility. Just when I confronted people on their rude and inappropriate behavior towards me, which you then state I am the one contrary to your Christian ideals, that you now post that I am a threat: because I won't allow you to treat me as a second class citizen in compliance with your Christian acts of Denial.

This request needs to be filled by Friday, May 22, 2009, or I may pursue Civil Action against any or all of the individuals indicated above.

In return for all written apologies, I will promise not to sue for Slander and other misconduct, and damages incurred by your mishandling of these situations, even though I have been severely damaged as a result of your Staff's actions.

I want to thank Art Weaver, Security Guard, for his helpful suggestions 2 months ago, and for Chante's accepting that my modeling request of David Reeves should be considered a compliment, and agreed he should have simply said no thank you and moved on.

As I Perceive It:

This is to Notify you that today, May 22, 2009,  is the deadline for written apologies requested in the attached letter, apologizing for Westminster Canterbury's Staff's discriminations against me.

As a preliminary alternative to contacting legal services, please be made aware, as a courtesy to you, of my intentions to picket Westminster Canterbury, Lynchburg, at any time, from Public Property beginning Sunday, May 24, 2009 until all requested responses have been received.

Since the only letter I have received from Westminster Canterbury's Administration, Denis Deane, states "If you are seen on or near Westminster Canterbury's property, law enforcement will be called immediately", with reference to the word "near", I would like to remind the City of Lynchburg Police Department of the incident at the YMCA a number of years ago, in which the YMCA encouraged its Security Guard, also a Lynchburg City Policeman, to have me arrested for picketing outside their establishment, resulting in a Civil Lawsuit against the City of Lynchburg and a Settlement in my favor for damages incurred for violating my Constitutional Rights to Picket the YMCA's Staff's discrimination against me, from public property (representation by the ALCU of Virginia).

Even though it would probably be better for me to actually be "near" Westminster Canterbury, say on VES Road on public property across from the main grounds, due to the elderly drivers operating vehicles on VES Road, I intend to remain on Rivermont Avenue / Boonsboro Road at the corner of Rivermont and VES Roads, in front of the Oakwood Country Club. I hope the Club doesn't mistakenly think I am picketing them, as my sign will say something to the effect of "Whites Only, Bigots, Homophobes ... Shame on You".

You may contact the ACLU of Virginia for further information and for legal advice.

You may also avoid this public expression of discontent at my being bullied by your establishment, by simply having your staff respond respectfully, as I request below, before close of business today.

I will continue to respect your "Trespassing Bar Notice", dated April 1, 2009, postmarked April 22, 2009, as clarified herein.

A Staff member at Westminster Canterbury showed my Mother a copy of my letter to the Board of Trustees. Walked all the way over to Skilled Care to show it to her ... funny ... I didn't realize she was on the Board at age 91, somewhat crippled from a second fall under their care. Mom had to call my sister in to interpret the action and letter, which was not addressed to her.

Wonder if that Staff member thinks my Mother still tells me what to do?

Also wondering who that black female was who called me "Smut" while she slammed a cabinet door shut while I was standing in the checkout line at Food Lion last night around 9PM. Maybe she really said "shit" and just happened to be looking at me at the time? Sounded more like "Smut". "Thanks for Sharing".

Good looking muscular black man who cruised me earlier, made up for the random vulgarity ... well, except for the pants down to the mid-thighs thing ... I could have done without seeing that ... cute butt, though.

 

I've started to believe that since my Mom won't reject me as a gay man, the way so many Lynchburg Moms and/or Dads have rejected their sons and daughters, it must be up to Westminster Canterbury to do so.

They did a good job of belittling me ... now, not responding to any of my written complaints, as my Mother thinks they should, seems to be their finishing touch.

Today's Request fir Legal Assistance ...since Westminster Canterbury is turning a deaf ear to me:

Dear ACLU of Virginia:

I have been unable to resolve these issues of Discrimination and Retaliation by Westminster Canterbury Independent Living Staff and Administration, towards me as a gay man whose Mother resides in both Independent Living and currently, in Skilled Care. Can you help? I believe I describe in detail what has happened since February of this year.

The only response has been a Trespassing Bar Notice dated April 1, 2009, from Denis Deane, Vice President, Human Resources and Support Services, when I attempted to confront them on their behaviors towards me a second time in 2 months.

This past week my Mother has had further complications which placed her at Lynchburg General Hospital, where I was able to be at her side. Today she was moved back to Skilled Care at Westminster Canterbury, where I am not welcomed to visit without further Discrimination and Retaliation by their Staff.

Dear ACLU of Virginia:

I have been unable to resolve these issues of Discrimination and Retaliation by Westminster Canterbury Independent Living Staff and Administration, towards me as a gay man whose Mother resides in both Independent Living and currently, in Skilled Care. Can you help? I believe I describe in detail what has happened since February of this year.

The only response has been a Trespassing Bar Notice dated April 1, 2009, from Denis Deane, Vice President, Human Resources and Support Services, when I attempted to confront them on their behaviors towards me a second time in 2 months.

This past week my Mother has had further complications which placed her at Lynchburg General Hospital, where I was able to be at her side. Today she was moved back to Skilled Care at Westminster Canterbury, where I am not welcomed to visit without further Discrimination and Retaliation by their Staff.

My Mother returned to WC Tuesday. She fell today in her Skilled Care room, directly across from the Nurse's Station.

They didn't know she had fallen, until she called me on the phone, and I called them back.

Her door was closed because they chatter loudly all day long and it disturbs my Mother.

The device she had on, warning of a fall, didn't work.

You tell me what I should do ...

On Monday, June 8, I attempted to contact Joe Payne, an Administrator at Westminster Cantebury, who was recommended by Carolyn, Head Receptionist, and my Mother. They said he could possibly help to resolve the issues. Only the answering machine is being offered as contact.

To date, no return call.

Maybe on vacation?

My Mother has been back at WC for several weeks now, unable to visit with me unencumbered and further dehumanized by "escorts". The unfair situation continues to take its toll on her health. Note: Even though my Mother has requested that she view my communications with your Staff, I would prefer not involving her further with the written text ... she knows what I am asking, and doesn't need to see the letters between me and your Staff. Continuing to do so could further compromise her emotional and physical health.

Solve the problem.

First of all, my name, also my Mother's name, is spelled Connelly (not Connolly); and, my first name is Bill. You may continue to call me Mr. Connelly. My Mother, (edited out), has been there since 2003, and I have been visiting her weekly since then as well, along with my partner.

In response to your attached letter:

Please note, and please retain for your records, this is the first time anyone from Westminster Canterbury has bothered to respond to any of my communications, since April 1, and at the same time, supply me with any alternative e-mail address other than what appears on your WC website: only from which I had any choice.

I have also chosen not to "visit my Mother" at your facility, and be escorted to/from the lobby, for the following reasons: that would allow you to continue your acts of Slander and Degradation of me and my true character, by your Staff (which is what I have been complaining about all along (see attached e-mail messages below)). It is not that I am saying I plan, or have ever planned, to ignore your Trespass Bar Notice. To the contrary, I have always stated I will continue to honor your April 1 Notice and nothing has changed with that.

I have grown afraid of some of your Staff. Their expressions of homophobia have been my main cause for concern, and your doing nothing to stop it added, and continues to add, concerns. I don't feel safe visiting your facility, and as I have expressed in my e-mails, I have on-going concerns for my Mother's safety as well, for those same reasons.

You and some of your Staff, evidently, don't get it.

In addition, every time I have tried to call someone at Westminster Canterbury in your administration, I have only been referred to an answering machine, and I have never gotten any calls back from your administration, past Mr. Deanes 1 call prior to the Notice. Furthermore, Mr. Deane simply adds insults to the injury, by stating, in his one and only call back, they are Christian and, paraphrasing, do not agree, associate or condone me as a Gay person.

Why should I continue to call, only to get an answering machine, and in the rare event I get a call back, set myself up for your Christian insults?

My Mother has a heart condition. Your insistence on not changing your stance, rejecting me further, expecting me to allow your Staffs Discrimination and Retaliation, with your Approval, and continuing to contact her with your legal explanations, is a detriment to her health.

How are we going to resolve this? Through legal action? Is that what you need, in order to be able to sit down and discuss this with me? "Lawyers present"?

Which by the way, you have never offered to sit down and discuss this with me ... not even in your first communication back to me, which is attached, not even when my Mother asked you to do so, when she ran into you in the hallways of Independent Living, and expressed her disagreement with your stance.

Evidently, that it is your choice.

Notice of Intent to Sue

This serves to inform you that I intend to sue Westminster Canterbury, Presbyterian Homes, Independent Living and Skilled Care, 501 VES Road, Lynchburg, Virginia, for Discrimination and Retaliation.

Pursuant to recent Federal Regulations, this necessitates placing a Hold on all Communications, and maintaining Records in compliance with said Federal Regulations, until such time as mandated in the referenced documents. It is suggested you consult with your legal advisors as to the full nature and extent of these recent federal government requirements and mandates.

As a Courtesy Notification: I also intend to Picket Westminster Canterbury, Lynchburg, from Public Property, as is my Right, at various times during the business and non-business hours, and will most likely remain on Rivermont Avenue and VES Roads, but always on Pubic Right of Ways. I will do this weekly, month to month, and if necessary, on a year to year basis, until such time as I get apologies as described in the attached letter, or until Westminster Canterbury goes out of business in Lynchburg, which ever comes first.

Having to be confronted with continued Discrimination and Retaliation by Westminster Canterbury Staff, which has been showing up from Staff members out in the public arena of Lynchburg as well, continues to create a hostile environment where I am not able to visit my Mother at Westminster Canterbury, as my personal safety has been and is a valid concern.

My Mother's wishes are for me to be able to visit her, unrestricted, and receive the same respect as any other visitor, regardless of their sexual orientation, to which I am not, and was not, being afforded. Use of "Karen OMBUDSMAN" of the C.V.A.A.A, this past 2 days is my final attempt to resolve this issue outside of Court, and off the Public Right of Ways, of Lynchburg.

Requirements Needing Immediate Attention

Note: I have had no verbal contact with David Reeves past the initial request of asking him to call me outside of work, about the Artistic Modeling job offer, and his asking for my number a second time. At no time did I threaten him.

1. David Reeves needs to send me a written apology for Slandering me to other Staff Members and Residents in and around the cafe at WC. Its effects were: made me uncomfortable and feeling unnecessarily intimidated, made people turn away from me when I ordered my food (they also slopped my food down on my plate at times while glaring at me), and when picking up the dishes, one man dropped everything in front of me, and picked up everyone else's used plates and dinner ware, and then walked away. These things all occurred immediately in the vicinity of Mr. Reeves.  He also needs to indicate he is not interested in my job offer of Artistic Modeling by stating "No Thank You", that he takes it as a compliment, and that he no longer needs my phone number which he asked for a second time. He also needs to state he will not dance around me when he is required to pick up my tray after meals, as if he is interested in something else, and he will no longer get others to act out against me.

2. Katrina, Director of Entertainment, needs to send me a written apology for embarrassing me by introducing me as "someone who enjoys playing with himself in public", when I did my solo Euphonium Recital for WC. I have this on a recording, and will be happy to present it as evidence if I need to take civil action on this whole matter. She needs to stop running away from us with a sudden scowl on her face, as if something is wrong with me or my Mother, whenever we happen to cross paths.

3. Vice President Denis Deane needs to send me a written apology for implying that I was less than his ideals of Christianity since I am a homosexual, and for being mistaken about what their Staff was doing was of no consequence, and subsequently spreading the misinformation that I pose a threat to Westminster Canterbury Staff and Residents, when I ranted and raved about it.

4. The Cafe Manager whose name escapes me (the loud black woman who often praises Jesus in the middle of the Cafe), needs to apologize for her part in this problem as well. I strongly suspect she encouraged David Reeves to continue his antics. In addition, her rudeness at a recent celebration which my partner and I mistakenly showed up to have dinner with my Mother, was reprehensible. Her telling me I could stay anyway, and help myself to all the alcohol I wanted, it was an Open Bar, was also threatening to me. I don't care for a drug pusher to act that way around me, my partner or my Mother. Alcohol is a drug.

5. The "ban" on my visiting my Mother at any and all parts of Westminster Canterbury, needs to be lifted in writing. I need to be free to come and go from Westminster Canterbury, eat dinner with my Mother whenever and wherever meals are served, and when I complain of discrimination, an intelligent Staff member needs to take care of the situation immediately. Instead of showing up and talking to the cafe staff, then coming out and staring at me with looks of perplexity, as I leave a dining situation as you did several times. If you feel the need to follow me around to take notes on your staff's behavior, feel free, but I do not accept your offer of coming and going with an escort. You've done that because you are required to by State Law to let me visit my Mother in Skilled Care only. Requiring me to have an escort, continues the Slander and will not be tolerated. As it stands now, I am banned from Westminster Canterbury INdependent Living and Skilled Care.

You have had no problems with me for the past 6 years my Mother has been a Resident of your facility. Just when I confronted people on their rude and inappropriate behavior towards me, which you then state I am the one contrary to your Christian ideals,  that you now post that I am a threat: because I won't allow you to treat me as a second class citizen in compliance with your Christian acts of Denial.

This request needs to be filled by Friday, May 22, 2009, or I may pursue Civil Action against any or all of the individuals indicated above.

In return for all written apologies, I will promise not to sue for Slander and other misconduct, and damages incurred by your mishandling of these situations, even though I have been severely damaged as a result of your Staff's actions.

I want to thank Art Weaver, Security Guard, for his helpful suggestions 2 months ago, and for Chante's accepting that my modeling request of David Reeves should be considered a compliment, and agreed he should have simply said no thank you and moved on.

Whites Only also Means No Coloreds

Another "Best Kept Secret" about Westminster Canterbury ... besides the new Deck over the Formal Dining Room, and the New Club Bar & Lounge, is probably better written " best kept secret ":

Last month my Mother told me how disturbed she was about how folks over in Skilled Care Section of Westminster Canterbury, weren't allowed to attend festivals and other celebrations like Veterans Day, Mardi Gras, July 4th (sic), Luau's and the like. Only the Independent Living Section were invited ...

You know Independent Living, which just happens to be the White's Only Section.

So even though you are in Skilled Care, and may/may not have lived in Independent Living, you cannot attend main celebrations. State regulations require Westminster Canterbury admit Blacks in the Skilled Care as patients, but are not required to into the privately owned and operated, Presbyterian and Episcopal rooted, Independent Living. No Blacks or any other People of Color, are permitted to live in Independent Living.

Nor are they permitted to attend any Special Celebrations.

Consequently, the only Blacks attending these main celebrations, filled with wine and cheese, and other liquors, special foods and live music, are the Servants.

And no one of Color, will ever live in the Westminster Canterbury Independent Living side of the tracks.

That's essentially, "No Coloreds".

Dear Hope:

This is in regards to my claim of Discrimination and Retaliation by the Staff and Administration at my Mother's Retirement Community, and Skilled Care Units,  towards myself.

My Mother, CWC, said she would be happy to talk to anyone on your staff. Her number is 434-XXX-XXXX. She is in Room XXX of the Skilled Care Unit, Westminster Canterbury, 501 V.E.S. Road, Lynchburg, VA. Her Independent Living quarters is located at the same address, but Box XXXX. Please remember though, she has experienced two separate fractured pelvis (left then right) events, and a Congestive Heart Failure episode, resulting in a Pacemaker being inserted, over the corresponding last few months ... in addition to the non-resolved nature described in this request.

The one communication which states my requests for restitution, is copied below. I also attach the two and only responses from Westminster Canterbury Administrators as pdf files.

I am still unable to visit my Mother there, without subjecting myself to further Discrimination and Retaliation.

It has made us both very unhappy, and their refusal to apologize, by ignoring my requests,  has caused me extreme anxiety problems within me all along the way ... to the point that I refuse to visit there at all without the apologies in writing, as I have requested several times, and are repeated below. This attitude towards me, labeled as "Christian" by their VP Denis Deane,  also provoked a fairly non-violent comment from me that if Mr. Reeves and Staff don't stop bullying me when I try to visit my mother in the Cafe, he might end up with a tray of food in his face. This was after they had slammed trays down in front of me, and bullied me with intimidating glares and rejection attitudes, and basic slanderous remarks, causing people to build fear of me.

The final problems with Mr. Reeves, began in February 2009, when I asked him if he would consider working for me as a model in my art studio.

That was it.

I was having memories of the feelings of public embarrassment, as the Staff of the Café at Westminster Canterbury would make "Like Mother ... Like Son ..." jokes from behind the Food Servers Counters, as my Mother and I and my partner, would be picking up something to eat weekly.

Some of the Residents would also say hello and welcome me, but would completely ignore and sometimes physically snub, my partner, who would be standing next to me and my Mother in the Café line.

He is Black.

FYI / Update for the ACLU of VA: Currently No Apologies have been received as formally Requested

It was embarrassing trying to visit my Mother this A.M. at Westminster, Canterbury:

In addition to being escorted by the Security Guard to and from her room, the numerous staff members that passed her room, glaring in, were gossiping about "Ms. Connelly's son".

Loud enough to be heard over the CBS Morning News with Charles Osgood.

I finally had to shut the door.

It was also distressing to hear that a White staff member had discriminated against Black staff people, in general, several times, and was still being employed there.

This morning my Mother and I wanted to spend some private time together and have me play piano for her as we have done for the last 4-5 years in the Chapel on Independent Living, near her room B202. It is very therapeutic and is an essential part of our lives as musicians.

This was denied.

She then asked me to have dinner with her, my sister and her husband ... this was also not possible because I am still restricted from eating dinner in the formal Dining Room or in the Cafe.

She is once again distressed. Very distressed at age 91.

To Westminster Canterbury Administration and the City of Lynchburg:

This is not a threat of violence, just a statement of fact ... You will never forget this treatment to my long time Lynchburg based family. This will remain on the Internet for as long as I can achieve such exposure of your White Supremacist attitudes, and I will continue to talk about you not "behind your back", but directly in front of you:

On Sunday, July 26th, you visited your mother, Catherine Connelly, who currently resides
in Hearthside 533. I'm glad that you came as I'm sure your mother enjoyed your visit.

Please refrain from making judgmental responses about my visitation habits. They are not appreciated, and your opinion has no value with myself, and only serves to patronize me, and attempts to make you look good to others on the e-mail list ... and believe me, given your Cafe & Entertainment Staff's history of abusive behavior towards me, not to mention yours, I would not be a patron at your establishment if I did not have to be.

When you came to visit, you did mt follow any of the visitation restrictions outlined in
my letter of June 17, 2009. Westminster Canterbury expects that you will follow them in the
future to the letter.

Yes I did. You need to instruct the July 26th Sunday Morning Receptionist, your employee, the white female who I was told had been written up twice for making racist remarks against Black employees, that she was violating your Rules and Regulations, in the attached letter, by insisting I wait for the Security Guard who she called, totally and purposefully disregarding my request for her to call the 5th Floor Heartside staff.

... any future variations from these accommodations will lead to your arrest
and removal from Westminster Canterbury property.

You really need to tone down your threats of using the Lynchburg Police Department to satisfy your grandiosity. Your stability is the one that needs to be in question, not mine.

A copy of my June 1 7 ~ ~ letter is attached
which includes the applicable restriction.

I had a copy with me when I came into the Lobby.

You should also instruct the Security Guard that I do not need to call him again, as he insisted that I do, "to follow the protocol insisted upon by the Receptionist", when it is time for me to leave. That all I need to do is ask a Staff member to take me down to the entrance.

It is your responsibility to Train Your Staff, not mine.

You need also tell the 5th Floor Heartside Nursing Staff their recommendation for me to take my Mother to the 4th Floor Dining Room for Breakfast, to get her off the floor for awhile, in lieu of requesting our meals be prepared and brought to us, and then eaten among those who need to be fed by staff, while the Staff walks around and yells "Jerry Falwell is coming on .... Jerry Falwell is coming on", was contrary to your Restrictions.

It is your responsibility to Train Your Staff, not mine.

Again, I'm glad you were able to visit with your mother yesterday and hope that future
such visits will be without incident.

I repeat: Your patronizing statements are not appreciated and are considered fake. You are continuing to play with my Mother's emotional and physical health to satisfy your own selfish needs to control. It is a detriment to her health as well as mine.

I remind you, all Apologies need to be in writing.

Since you appear to be of both sentiments, I have decided not to visit my Mother again in your establishment. I will simply pick her up and we will go where it is Safe to Eat and Play Piano in privacy ... something which you are not supplying in accordance with the Ombudsman interpretation of us having said right to privacy.

My non-attendance at Westminster Canterbury is your loss, and it will be your Law Suit when a Lawyer picks up the Paper Trail.

To the Administration of Westminster Canterbury:

It saddened & alarms me to hear you have not offered a formal written apology from within Westminster Canterbury, to the 2 Black Male Staff that were allegedly discriminated against by the White Female Receptionist on the basis of the color of their skin, for which she has been "Written Up", twice.

In addition to it being an issue of simple common decency for making such an amends, the integrity of the atmosphere in which my Mother depends on her well-being is also at stake. You must provide such a sincere amends at once!

Your negative example of how you treat Diversity by not requiring the same type of apology to me as a Gay man, is as reprehensible; but, it does go along with a White, Male Chauvinist, Supremacist mode of operation of which I perceive you are continuing to exhibit. Just as much as the non-apologetic attitude towards your Black Staff members exhibits the same dehumanizing behavior.

You must cease and desist this behavior: many of Your Lesbian and Gay Staff suffer from the same degradation with no mandatory apology as much, if not more, as your Black Staff ... as some of them are also Black.

As I perceive it (as it has always been, and forever shall be) ...

Allegedly, and very recently, Westminster Canterbury Administration wanted to kick out a Resident of Skilled Care because they ran out of money. A Nurse on the Staff, refused to do it. (Purple Star Medal of Honor to the Nurse).

After the Resident died, Westminster Canterbury opened a lawsuit against the family of the deceased, to recover their alleged losses ... currently in progress.

To recover their alleged losses.

How do you think this scenario, prior to the Residents death, affected the Resident's Happiness & overall Sense of Well-Being?

My Mother, Catherine Connelly, continues to be disappointed that I cannot join other family members for meals in the formal Dining Room in Independent Living side of Westminster Canterbury. Monday and Wednesday, she invited me to join my sisters Beth Fauber and her husband, Stuart Fauber, and Carrie Walker and her daughter, and her son, but then remembered we still are not allowed full privileges of the Dining Room, so that I was turned away once again.

Our money not the same color of green?

My Mother and I, are also disappointed that we cannot have reasonable privacy as required by Visitation Rights, when we applied for use of a piano in a private area such as the Chapel as we had done so many times before. We should have been told we needed to reserve it, instead of being flatly denied its use, with the only alternative being a public piano on the 5th floor of Heartside among all the sick people.

This violates my Right of Visitation with privacy.

The Chaplain Kelly selfishly said "now what a beautiful thing for the Residents of Heartside to be able to experience your piano playing", without consulting me for my input. This session was intended for my Mother only, as she is one of my teachers. It is not a public performance. It continues to annoy me how offensively controlling the Staff of Westminster Canterbury attempts to be involving my personal business with my Mother.

To WC Administration and Staff: I am the one who controls my rehearsals, performances and the like ... not you or any of your Staff. Got that?

What's next? You going to ask me to drop my pants, to see if I have on clean underwear next time I attempt to visit my Mother? I'm afraid I will only be picking her up to LEAVE Westminster Canterbury grounds, outside the Chaplain's Office. I will not be visiting her amongst your Ignorant & Dehumanizing Staff. While my pants are down, you're welcome to check out the rest ... especially around backside.

Until I receive the 3 formal written apologies as outlined in my letters to Westminster Canterbury, I will not even consider sharing my talents with your Staff and Residents ... your Staff insulted me around my well-received Euphonium Recital of a few years ago ... you know the one where "Katrina" introduced me as someone who was known to enjoy playing with himself in public, as a "humorous" reference to me creating my own accompaniments, and a rumor from the YMCA? embarrassing me before I was to perform?

The one I have a full digital recording of?

You think I am going to expose myself to your stupid Christian antics intended to shame and humiliate me, publicly reject me in the name of your Saviour? While you hide behind the Cross? Bearing False Witness Against Thy Neighbor? Not "Break Bread" with the Sinner? Don't Invite the Sinner into your House?

Yes ... that smells of Fish.

This is a formal request to investigate the criminal acts of violence against myself in the Café at Westminster Canterbury by Staff member David Reeves and fellow co-workers in which he also plotted to have another member throw a tray down in front of me, in and around March of 2009, and the recent act of criminal violence against my Mother and Sister in the 5th Floor Heartside Health Care Center last week by another Staff Member of Skilled Care.

Please take whatever means is necessary to bring these people to answer for their acts of physical violence against my family, all of us being members in good standing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

You have not answered my letter dated August 7, 2009 so I feel the need to state: Failure to investigate my allegations of violence, may result in charges being brought against the Lynchburg Police Department, the Virginia Department of Social Services, and the CVAAA.

Requirements Needing Immediate Attention

Note: I have had no verbal contact with David Reeves past the initial request of asking him to call me outside of work, about the Artistic Modeling job offer, and his asking for my number a second time. At no time did I threaten him.

1. David Reeves needs to send me a written apology for Slandering me to other Staff Members and Residents in and around the cafe at WC. Its effects were: made me uncomfortable and feeling unnecessarily intimidated, made people turn away from me when I ordered my food (they also slopped my food down on my plate at times while glaring at me), and when picking up the dishes, one man dropped everything in front of me, and picked up everyone else's used plates and dinner ware, and then walked away. These things all occurred immediately in the vicinity of Mr. Reeves. He also needs to indicate he is not interested in my job offer of Artistic Modeling by stating "No Thank You", that he takes it as a compliment, and that he no longer needs my phone number which he asked for a second time. He also needs to state he will not dance around me when he is required to pick up my tray after meals, as if he is interested in something else, and he will no longer get others to act out against me.

2. Katrina, Director of Entertainment, needs to send me a written apology for embarrassing me by introducing me as "someone who enjoys playing with himself in public", when I did my solo Euphonium Recital for WC. I have this on a recording, and will be happy to present it as evidence if I need to take civil action on this whole matter. She needs to stop running away from us with a sudden scowl on her face, as if something is wrong with me or my Mother, whenever we happen to cross paths.

3. Vice President Denis Deane needs to send me a written apology for implying that I was less than his ideals of Christianity since I am a homosexual, and for being mistaken about what their Staff was doing was of no consequence, and subsequently spreading the misinformation that I pose a threat to Westminster Canterbury Staff and Residents, when I ranted and raved about it.

4. The Cafe Manager whose name escapes me (the loud black woman who often praises Jesus in the middle of the Cafe), needs to apologize for her part in this problem as well. I strongly suspect she encouraged David Reeves to continue his antics. In addition, her rudeness at a recent celebration which my partner and I mistakenly showed up to have dinner with my Mother, was reprehensible. Her telling me I could stay anyway, and help myself to all the alcohol I wanted, it was an Open Bar, was also threatening to me. I don't care for a drug pusher to act that way around me, my partner or my Mother. Alcohol is a drug.

5. The "ban" on my visiting my Mother at any and all parts of Westminster Canterbury, needs to be lifted in writing. I need to be free to come and go from Westminster Canterbury, eat dinner with my Mother whenever and wherever meals are served, and when I complain of discrimination, an intelligent Staff member needs to take care of the situation immediately. Instead of showing up and talking to the cafe staff, then coming out and staring at me with looks of perplexity, as I leave a dining situation as you did several times. If you feel the need to follow me around to take notes on your staff's behavior, feel free, but I do not accept your offer of coming and going with an escort. You've done that because you are required to by State Law to let me visit my Mother in Skilled Care only. Requiring me to have an escort, continues the Slander and will not be tolerated. As it stands now, I am banned from Westminster Canterbury INdependent Living and Skilled Care.

You have had no problems with me for the past 6 years my Mother has been a Resident of your facility. Just when I confronted people on their rude and inappropriate behavior towards me, which you then state I am the one contrary to your Christian ideals, that you now post that I am a threat: because I won't allow you to treat me as a second class citizen in compliance with your Christian acts of Denial.

This request needs to be filled by Friday, May 22, 2009, or I may pursue Civil Action against any or all of the individuals indicated above.

In return for all written apologies, I will promise not to sue for Slander and other misconduct, and damages incurred by your mishandling of these situations, even though I have been severely damaged as a result of your Staff's actions.

I want to thank Art Weaver, Security Guard, for his helpful suggestions 2 months ago, and for Chante's accepting that my modeling request of David Reeves should be considered a compliment, and agreed he should have simply said no thank you and moved on.

To Whom It May Concern:

Since February, I feel I have tried every avenue to resolve the issues at hand, and must now resort to public expression by way of picketing.

I will remain on Pubic Rights of Way, where ever I am choosing to picket on that particular day. Please be reminded of my improper arrest outside the YMCA a number of years ago, while picketing anti-gay treatment there, resulting in a lawsuit against the City of Lynchburg, settled out of Court in my favor, represented by the ACLU of Virginia.

I will continue to picket, whether my Mother remains at Westminster Canterbury or not, of which I have no control, until I receive the apologies as outlined below, and am given the freedom to visit my Mother while having dinner with her in the comfort of and with complete respect of Staff, in the formal Dining Room or in the Cafe as we had been doing since 2003.

It is not acceptable to have to be humiliated by being escorted to and from her Heartside coffin-sized room and to only be able to have a tray prepared, out of my sight, and consumed with her, among those who are ill.

Requirements Needing Immediate Attention

Note: I have had no verbal contact with David Reeves past the initial request of asking him to call me outside of work, about the Artistic Modeling job offer, and his asking for my number a second time. At no time did I threaten him.

1. David Reeves needs to send me a written apology for Slandering me to other Staff Members and Residents in and around the cafe at WC. Its effects were: made me uncomfortable and feeling unnecessarily intimidated, made people turn away from me when I ordered my food (they also slopped my food down on my plate at times while glaring at me), and when picking up the dishes, one man dropped everything in front of me, and picked up everyone else's used plates and dinner ware, and then walked away. These things all occurred immediately in the vicinity of Mr. Reeves. He also needs to indicate he is not interested in my job offer of Artistic Modeling by stating "No Thank You", that he takes it as a compliment, and that he no longer needs my phone number which he asked for a second time. He also needs to state he will not dance around me when he is required to pick up my tray after meals, as if he is interested in something else, and he will no longer get others to act out against me.

2. Katrina, Director of Entertainment, needs to send me a written apology for embarrassing me by introducing me as "someone who enjoys playing with himself in public", when I did my solo Euphonium Recital for WC. I have this on a recording, and will be happy to present it as evidence if I need to take civil action on this whole matter. She needs to stop running away from us with a sudden scowl on her face, as if something is wrong with me or my Mother, whenever we happen to cross paths.

3. Vice President Denis Deane needs to send me a written apology for implying that I was less than his ideals of Christianity since I am a homosexual, and for being mistaken about what their Staff was doing was of no consequence, and subsequently spreading the misinformation that I pose a threat to Westminster Canterbury Staff and Residents, when I ranted and raved about it.

4. The Cafe Manager whose name escapes me (the loud black woman who often praises Jesus in the middle of the Cafe), needs to apologize for her part in this problem as well. I strongly suspect she encouraged David Reeves to continue his antics. In addition, her rudeness at a recent celebration which my partner and I mistakenly showed up to have dinner with my Mother, was reprehensible. Her telling me I could stay anyway, and help myself to all the alcohol I wanted, it was an Open Bar, was also threatening to me. I don't care for a drug pusher to act that way around me, my partner or my Mother. Alcohol is a drug.

5. The "ban" on my visiting my Mother at any and all parts of Westminster Canterbury, needs to be lifted in writing. I need to be free to come and go from Westminster Canterbury, eat dinner with my Mother whenever and wherever meals are served, and when I complain of discrimination, an intelligent Staff member needs to take care of the situation immediately. Instead of showing up and talking to the cafe staff, then coming out and staring at me with looks of perplexity, as I leave a dining situation as you did several times. If you feel the need to follow me around to take notes on your staff's behavior, feel free, but I do not accept your offer of coming and going with an escort. You've done that because you are required to by State Law to let me visit my Mother in Skilled Care only. Requiring me to have an escort, continues the Slander and will not be tolerated. As it stands now, I am banned from Westminster Canterbury INdependent Living and Skilled Care.

You have had no problems with me for the past 6 years my Mother has been a Resident of your facility. Just when I confronted people on their rude and inappropriate behavior towards me, which you then state I am the one contrary to your Christian ideals, that you now post that I am a threat: because I won't allow you to treat me as a second class citizen in compliance with your Christian acts of Denial.

This request needs to be filled by Friday, May 22, 2009, or I may pursue Civil Action against any or all of the individuals indicated above.

In return for all written apologies, I will promise not to sue for Slander and other misconduct, and damages incurred by your mishandling of these situations, even though I have been severely damaged as a result of your Staff's actions.

I want to thank Art Weaver, Security Guard, for his helpful suggestions 2 months ago, and for Chante's accepting that my modeling request of David Reeves should be considered a compliment, and agreed he should have simply said no thank you and moved on.

As I Perceive It ...

FYI: I feel Westminster Canterbury has destroyed my relationship with my Mother.

Mr. Joe Payne, of Westminster Canterbury, could not return any of the 3 phone calls I made to him to clear this up over a 4 month period, at the suggestions of Carolyn the Receptionist and at the request of my Mother, but he can take time to drive up to Rivermont/Boonsboro Road and VES Roads, and take digital pictures of me picketing Westminster Canterbury:

"Stop the Violence Against My Mom and Me, at Westminster Canterbury"

During the 1 period of morning rush hour traffic of my standing out there with this message, in front of the Oakwood Country Club, I stopped counting at around 300 cars, trucks and school buses passing coming into town.

FYI: I feel Westminster Canterbury has destroyed my relationship with my Mother at Westminster Canterbury

My best friend and I picked up my Mother on Saturday, 22nd, and was not allowed any private time with her, in her room, when we returned. We had a wonderful time away from Westminster Canterbury. We also wondered why there were 2 Staff members escorting my Mother and us from/to her room. Floor Nursing Staff so plentiful that they can spare a pair? or you needed 2 Witness Signatures to sign her out? to interrogate us upon our return? Good Cop / Bad Cop? There was no mention of our calling in at 8PM to say we were going to be later than planned. 

In addition, working at the Cafe where I was still banned was mentioned, as well as did we want to hear her, a Staff Member, sing a Gospel Song with my Mother accompanying her on piano (when we were supposed to have private time with her).

Please refrain from sticking your Christian Dogma in my face, and bringing up topics related to the abuse I suffered in the Cafe and Dining room, to which you need to apologize (see letter below).

During picketing this Sunday, 23rd, at St Johns Episcopal Church, on Rivermont Avenue, among the hundred or so people who drove by, several people stopped and asked what was going on. One Male/Female Couple, told me their story of their Mother being abused at Westminster Canterbury, and upon filing a police report, was ostracized by the Westminster Canterbury Community. According to her, their story was subsequently elaborately torn apart and covered up, by the Administration to make it seem like they, Westminster Canterbury, had no problems; that it was this woman's perception that was at fault.

According to her, with the woman's Mother having Alzheimer's, there was no way to prove the abuse.

They then thanked me for what I was doing: "Stop the Violence Against My Mom & Me at Westminster Canterbury", and warned me that Westminster Canterbury would probably do the same to me as they did to her. She also asked if my brother-in-law was on the Board of Directors? was this embarrassing to my sister (being unfairly banned from the Cafe and Dining Room, escorted to/from Mother's Coffin Sized Room)?

I explained the types of violence I was referring to, and they agreed it could escalate into physical violence if left unbridled, and to keep up the good work.

Katrina, Director of Entertainment, needs to send me a written apology for embarrassing me by introducing me as "someone who enjoys playing with himself in public", when I did my solo Euphonium Recital for WC. I have this on a recording, and will be happy to present it as evidence if I need to take civil action on this whole matter. She needs to stop running away from us with a sudden scowl on her face, as if something is wrong with me or my Mother, whenever we happen to cross paths.

3. Vice President Denis Deane needs to send me a written apology for implying that I was less than his ideals of Christianity since I am a homosexual, and for being mistaken about what their Staff was doing was of no consequence, and subsequently spreading the misinformation that I pose a threat to Westminster Canterbury Staff and Residents, when I ranted and raved about it.

4. The Cafe Manager whose name escapes me (the loud black woman who often praises Jesus in the middle of the Cafe), needs to apologize for her part in this problem as well. I strongly suspect she encouraged David Reeves to continue his antics. In addition, her rudeness at a recent celebration which my partner and I mistakenly showed up to have dinner with my Mother, was reprehensible. Her telling me I could stay anyway, and help myself to all the alcohol I wanted, it was an Open Bar, was also threatening to me. I don't care for a drug pusher to act that way around me, my partner or my Mother. Alcohol is a drug.

5. The "ban" on my visiting my Mother at any and all parts of Westminster Canterbury, needs to be lifted in writing. I need to be free to come and go from Westminster Canterbury, eat dinner with my Mother whenever and wherever meals are served, and when I complain of discrimination, an intelligent Staff member needs to take care of the situation immediately. Instead of showing up and talking to the cafe staff, then coming out and staring at me with looks of perplexity, as I leave a dining situation as you did several times. If you feel the need to follow me around to take notes on your staff's behavior, feel free, but I do not accept your offer of coming and going with an escort. You've done that because you are required to by State Law to let me visit my Mother in Skilled Care only. Requiring me to have an escort, continues the Slander and will not be tolerated. As it stands now, I am banned from Westminster Canterbury INdependent Living and Skilled Care.

You have had no problems with me for the past 6 years my Mother has been a Resident of your facility. Just when I confronted people on their rude and inappropriate behavior towards me, which you then state I am the one contrary to your Christian ideals, that you now post that I am a threat: because I won't allow you to treat me as a second class citizen in compliance with your Christian acts of Denial.

This request needs to be filled by Friday, May 22, 2009, or I may pursue Civil Action against any or all of the individuals indicated above.

In return for all written apologies, I will promise not to sue for Slander and other misconduct, and damages incurred by your mishandling of these situations, even though I have been severely damaged as a result of your Staff's actions.

I want to thank Art Weaver, Security Guard, for his helpful suggestions 2 months ago, and for Chante's accepting that my modeling request of David Reeves should be considered a compliment, and agreed he should have simply said no thank you and moved on.

Requirements Needing Immediate Attention

Note: I have had no verbal contact with David Reeves past the initial request of asking him to call me outside of work, about the Artistic Modeling job offer, and his asking for my number a second time. At no time did I threaten him.

1. David Reeves needs to send me a written apology for Slandering me to other Staff Members and Residents in and around the cafe at WC. Its effects were: made me uncomfortable and feeling unnecessarily intimidated, made people turn away from me when I ordered my food (they also slopped my food down on my plate at times while glaring at me), and when picking up the dishes, one man dropped everything in front of me, and picked up everyone else's used plates and dinner ware, and then walked away. These things all occurred immediately in the vicinity of Mr. Reeves. He also needs to indicate he is not interested in my job offer of Artistic Modeling by stating "No Thank You", that he takes it as a compliment, and that he no longer needs my phone number which he asked for a second time. He also needs to state he will not dance around me when he is required to pick up my tray after meals, as if he is interested in something else, and he will no longer get others to act out against me.

FYI:

This morning, my aunt Francis, while sitting beside me and my Mom at Lynchburg General Hospital, during my mother's recovery from emergency surgery, asked me why I had not attended a large gathering of some out-of-town relatives having lunch with my Mother at Westminster Canterbury, a few weeks ago.

My Mother didn't want me to tell her I was still banned from eating with my her on that side of WC, and the only place I'm allowed to eat is with all the extremely sick people on Heartside, and only then, with an escort.

So she just didn't call.

I also asked the Head Nurse at Lynchburg General not to allow any more Liberty University Nursing Students to approach my mother again, as was being done today at 2PM.

FYI:

My mother, Catherine Connelly, died Tuesday at 3PM at Virginia Baptist Hospital. I was among those honored at being able to be at her bedside at the time.

She chose to go to Skilled Care at VBH, and not back to Westminster Canterbury, in part, because of the bigotry still being expressed at Westminster Canterbury: their history of discrimination against me as a gay man, the "Whites Only" atmosphere at WC, and the extreme non-apologetic attitude from H. Cary III, Joe Payne, Dan Nimon, Denis Deane and all the other negligent administrators at Westminster Canterbury. There was also the under staffed care at Westminster Canterbury that she was so attuned to, being a retired RN and Hospital Administrator, and it frightened her.

This all weighed on her, her final year associated with Westminster Canterbury, and Westminster Canterbury did nothing but ignore requests for a remedy, using in part, the excuse that they were "Christian". The Administration and Staff at Westminster Canterbury didn't even know how sick she was until I called to tell them the first time we thought she only had 2 days remaining, and how happy I was going to be to not have to be rejected by them every time I wanted to see my Mother.

You may all attend the funeral service at Tharp Funeral Home (not Park View UMC) and reception at the Oakwood Country Club (not Westminster Canterbury). Minister Phil Showers promises to use the occasion to pontificate the authenticity of Jesus and the Christian Way, even though he was asked to try to make everyone feel welcomed regardless of religion or spiritual practice. He disagreed saying this was all about (his perception of) Catherine Connelly. I expect there will be an alcohol bar at the Club, so you will be able to get intoxicated, and it will be easier to ignore what is right regarding the bigotry you continue to express: The Homophobic Lynchburg Way ... Onward Christian Bullies ... Whites Only, etc.

Catherine Connelly would want everyone to feel welcomed, and I believe she would want to be honored as the deceased, but have those living and in attendance to be the ones respected and comforted regardless of their religious affiliation.

Most of you "Christians" will probably enjoy the bullying ... I will probably not be in attendance at either event, as I can no longer tolerate your ignorant attitudes.
