Up-and-coming Spanish label Microfreak presents its fourth release, The Passenger, a production of Shaun King, an Englishman living in Ibiza, complete with a remix by Alecs Marta.
The Passenger starts by setting the pace with an agile house bass drum, and little by little other elements are being added and removed:muted cymbals, metal snares, a surround synth and a profuond bass.
The track progresses at cruise speed, with the same cadence that streetlamps create when you're running with a car in the city. The Passenger has at the same time the sobriety of minimal, the strong physical presence of deep house, and a modern, cosmopolitan, tecnhie
feel.
In the B side we see Alecs Marta take the passenger who's looking at the streetlamps and spins him till he becomes a bit dizzy and narcotized.
He hears clicks and clonks, but don't worry, it's not the car, it's all in his head.
Shaun King's Weekend Billionaries was included by Tania Vulcano in her mix-CD Circo Loco @ DC 10 last year. King is one of the four heads of Microfreak Records (the rest are Eddu Reig, Salva Cotanda and David Sens). They created the label in 2006 out of the eagerness of being able to put their own music out, but the success of their first releases outweigthed so much their expectations they had to set themselves higher goals. As for now, Microfreak Records has convinced international artists as Alecs Marta (Pulsewith, Regular, Treibstoff) to do remixes for them, and it's the most outstanding new label to come out of Valencia.

The Passenger empieza marcando el ritmo con un ágil bombo de house, y poco a poco va añadiendo y quitando unos charles apagados, unas cajas de sonido metálico, un sinte envolvente y un bajo grueso. El tema avanza a velocidad de crucero, con la cadencia que
marcan los postes al circular en coche por una autopista. The Passenger tiene a la vez la austeridad sonora del minimal, una presencia física densa, propia del deep house, y una textura moderna, cosmopolita y muy tech.
En la cara B, Alecs Marta coge al pasajero que ve pasar los postes y lo somete a un centrifugado que lo deja atolondrado y chispeante. Se escuchan clicks y cloncs, pero no hay de qué preocuparse, el coche funciona perfectamente, está todo en su cabeza.
El tema de Shaun King Weekend Billionaries fue incluido por Tania Vulcano en su sesión Circo Loco @ DC 10 del año pasado. King es uno de los cuatro impulsores (los otros son Eddu Reig, Salva Cotanda y David Sens) de Microfreak Records, un sello que nace en el 2006 de la ilusión de poder planchar un vinilo, de las ganas de tener físicamente en las manos una creación propia. Pero sus primeras referencias obtienen tan buenos resultados que empujan al cuarteto a plantearse nuevos objetivos. Por lo pronto, Microfreak Records se permite pedir remezclas a artistas de proyección internacional como Alecs Marta (Pulsewith, Treibstoff) y es "el prometedor nuevo sello surgido en Valencia".
