Who Gives Kudos:

Monday, March 03, 2008

Current mood:  energetic

Booking Policy:

The demand to play the Redhouse outweighs the number of nights and slots we've got available. This means we have to find a way of deciding who gets priority and who doesn't so here roughly is our booking policy:

1) For live music we book original bands. Tribute or cover bands only under special agreement (please contact us with details).

2)  At the moment we are not booking any large sound system nights. We respect our neighbors and we are already working with some promoters.  If however you would like to promote a DJ night and are happy going through the house system then please contact us.

3)  We pride ourselves on trying to book a broad range of new and up and coming acts from across the genres and obviously try and pull off the occasional coup like an exclusive small show by a bigger name.

4)  We passionately believe in the grassroots music scene and try and book as many local bands, DIY and local DJ nights as the diary allows.

If you fit into the above and you want to book a show at Redhouse - here's what you should know:

How to Book:

1) To book a date:

a) EMAIL:   redhouseenquiry@gmail.com

OR

b) Drop off or mail a demo and press pack into:

(On the CD wirte clearly the genre of music)

Redhouse

168 Solly Street

Sheffield

S1 4BB

Please do no message us on Myspace, you might not get a speedy response.

2)  We generally like to book shows 2 to 3 months in advance. ....

a)   Sunday and Tuesday are for gigs that can draw at least 30 people and should be acoustic or quieter bands

b)    Wednesday and Thursday are for gigs that can draw at least 50 people

c)   Friday and Saturday nights are by special arrangement

3)   We will get back to you within a couple of weeks with available dates, at which time you will be sent a booking agreement to sign and return. The best way to reach us, AFTER 2 weeks, is via email.

4)  If you are from out of town, we understand you may not be able to draw that many people. It is suggested that you network with local acts as a support. If you need help with this process please let us know in your first contact.

5)  You must confirm your show with us 4 weeks before the date and provide all ESSENTIAL details:

6)  Dates not confirmed within 4 weeks will be re-opened for other acts to book.

7)  You should provide us with several posters and/or flyers so we can distribute and display them for you in the venue. This should be within 3 weeks of the show.

Sound Issues:

We don't have an acoustic limiter as some venues do but we do have an apartment directly next to us and staff dwellings above; also we don't have a cavernous space so we ask that you keep this in mind when setting your levels for a show

DJ's MUST keep all levels reasonable but must especially make sure the bass levels are not audible from outside of the front of the building. If you are asked to turn the volume down please respect this and do so, also ensure it is kept at the reduced volume and doesn't creep back up.

For bands: We encourage drummers to dampen the kit wherever possible but especially if they are notoriously loud.  Electric guitars and bass amps need to be kept at a reasonable level.

Bands have ALWAYS sounded better at the Redhouse when the levels are set correctly. Our sound engineer will help with all of this and will ensure you sound great.

We provide the sound technician as part of the package, but if you'd prefer to use your own sound technician, this is fine.

We send our listings to Exposed Magazine, The Sheffield Star, The Sheffield Telegraph, Alive, The Guardian Guide and Metro.

We also network with several area radio stations that quite often promote certain shows of ours and we list them on our Myspace and Facebook groups.

We will provide you with a media list and we expect you to send at least your listings if not a full press release and promotional material (including a demo and press photo) to the above mentioned media. We have found this greatly increases your chances that the press will give you a write-up/listing.

You are also responsible for putting up posters, handing out flyers, contacting the press, calling, texting, setting up facebook events, Myspace events and e-mailing people to get them out for the show.

Bands and DJ's have played gigs with us to an empty room, earned no money, felt terrible and found they've taken a step backwards because they won't get another chance. It really is a waste of everyone's time and is totally counter-productive.

So, promote, promote, promote! If people don't know about it, they won't come.

BUT - DO NOT FLY POSTER, it will be you who gets the cleaning bill and your night will be cancelled.

And finally:

This booking policy is to protect us, also to ensure you have a fantastic night and to encourage you to promote and bring people out. After 3 years of experimenting we have found we must have it this way to stay alive

We know thats a lot to take in, but please don't let it put you off contacting us about a gig, we are very approachable and can discuss in detail any questions you might have.

So, thanks for reading and we look forward to hearing from you.....
