What is it about the future that makes us want to predict it? Is it so we can prepare for it or try to change it? Or is it that we just want to be the first to know what's going on?
The NFL draft is coming up and a guy named Mel Kiper Jr. has created a mini-empire out of predicting how the draft will play out year after year. He doesn't consult with teams about where certain players will be picked or which players they should select. His audience is football fans who have no stake in the draft, but who so desire to have inside information that they will fork out $26.95 for his "Draft Report."
This same obsession with the future holds true in our spiritual lives. Books on prophecy and the end times are published year after year because people want to be able to grasp what's going on and why. Prophecy is what we're talking about in Fuel this weekend.
When we start to think about prophecy, we must start with the prophet. There are three things that are always true of a prophet:
1. Prophets are loyal to God.
2. Prophets speak the words of God.
3. Prophets words always come true.
These indicators of the loyalty and reliablity of a prophet were true of those prophets in the Bible and they hold true today.
We'll hear a little more about prophesy later this week and then we'll dig into on Sunday.
