Do not trust this man -
Philip Shiraz http://www.facebook.com/people/Philip-Shiraz/733947736 If you do decide to work with him (and I suggest that you don't) then make sure you get 100% cash up front.
I recently had the displeasure of working with this guy. He booked me for a party in Stockholm. I showed up, played a good gig , the party was well attended, not packed solid, but plenty of people and a pretty successful event.
He told me he'd meet me in the morning at the hotel to pay me the 1500 euros that we agreed as a fee. Hours before the party started he told me: "there will be no problem at all with the cash, how we run our parties is that we always make sure that we put the artist's money in the bank even before the party starts so even if the party fails, we can still pay the artists."
Here's an excerpt from his email to me the day before the party:
At arrival
everything is set. There won’t be a problem with payment, everything is under
control. Just enjoy the travel and enjoy Sweden.....
Regards
Philip
Needless to say, he didn't show up at the hotel in the morning, I called him about 10 times and didn't answer his mobile phone, leaving me to pay the hotel bills and having to make my own way to the airport via taxi and train.
I have tried several times to contact him since with SMS, phone calls and emails - and so far have been met with a deafening silence.
I also find out that the other 3 numbers that he gave me as contacts (in the email one day before the party ) all turn out to be false numbers, suggesting that the whole thing was a set-up from the start.
The last emails I sent him I told him to please do the right thing and contact me, if he had to pay installments, no problem, we could work something out, but still, total silence.
After trying repeatedly, the last email I sent him I gave him a deadline of 4 days to contact me otherwise I will have to name and shame him publically, not because I would take any pleasure in it (it's a drag actually) but because I have a duty to inform other artists so they don't get robbed in a similar way.
Unfortunately still not a word, hence this post.
Please make sure word gets around about this guy. He doesn't deserve to get away with this. Artists and party people alike should know what this guy is about.

P.S
Please note, this is not meant as a whinge, but as a heads up and warning for others to not get caught and also as a way to create some kind of consequence for this guy's dishonesty.
P.P.S
Having an effective policy in place to make sure I get paid is my responsibity. I have a policy of money up front with people that I have never worked with before. Unfortunately, in this case I made a (very) rare exception and it was completely taken advantage of.
Lastly, Harel Prussky was playing at this gig and I'd like to know whether he also got stiffed. I sent Harel an email but no reply as yet... We'll see soon enough. (update: Harel got ripped off also)
Finally, I am just astonished by the stupidity of some people that in today's Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Email, mSN, Skype, Internet forum connected world, that somehow they think they can get away with this type of behaviour, without everyone knowing about it.

Conclusion
23rd October 2009
So, just to conclude this Dodgy Promoter Alert
After many emails to him via Facebook, he finally emailed me back at last!
So what do you think he said?
He told me that he was NOT going to pay me. (In his words, "It's not going to happen.")
So just to be clear on this, it's not a late payment. It's theft.
Two days of my time and my expertees were extracted from me under false pretences.
So, the final score:
Philip Shiraz didn't pay:
1. Cosmosis
2. California Sunshine (The other main Live act)
3. The 2 DJ's on the Tecno floor
4. 1 other DJ on the Trance floor
5. The decor team which set the party decorations up.
It's important to note that the party went reasonably well. It was pretty well attended, many people enjoyed themselves and had a good night. Financially, I would guess around the break even point, maybe slight loss or slight gain.
I've had 2 dj's contact me about a previous event he made where they did not get paid at all and another 2 DJ's for an additional event of his that didn't get paid either.
So my conclusion is that this Philip Shiraz guy is simply a liar and a con man, plain and simple.
Please feel free to spread this information so other people do not get ripped off by him.
Cheers,
Bill
