Current mood:  contemplative

40 years ago, on a Saturday night, er, Sunday morning, Terry Whitten,
Harry Adams, and I were sitting around the Whitten's living room,
sharing a Sportsmans pizza from Little Caesars, and a half gallon of
Vernors. Yes, this was so long ago that Little Caesars still made
pizzas in genuine pizza ovens (and you could get a 30" pizza), and pop
came in 2 quart, not 2 liter, bottles. But I digress.

Anyhow, this old black and white movie came on tv, and it immediately
became our all time favorite. I don't think there was a time Terry and
I got together after that when the movie didn't come up in the course
of conversation. This movie had one of the best endings in the history
of cinema! At least, thats how I remember it!

The movie was titled THE GIRL HUNTERS. It featured Mickey Spillane
playing his own fictional character, private eye Mike Hammer. I have
been unsuccessfully trying to find a copy for a long time. The movie
has been out of print for almost a decade, is considered a collectors
item, and when you can find a copy, generally sells for between $60 and
$150, depending on condition. The few times I actually had a spare $100
laying around, someone always beat me to it.

So yesterday morning, I get a notification from ebay that a NEW copy of
this movie had gone on bid. It was offered by a seller with over 10,000
sales and a 99% approval rating. And the best part... I got it for the
Buy It Now price of TWENTY DOLLARS.

It was only late last night that I realized this fabulous deal came exactly 6 mos to the day of Terry's death.

Am I the only one who sees this as a very eerie coincidence?
