MAN IN WASHINGTON D.C. ACCUSED OF TRAFFICKING 11 YEAR OLD GIRLS INTO SEX INDUSTRY
· Shelby Lewis, a
forty-two year old US citizen from Temple Hills, has been indicted of
five charges of child sex trafficking. Accusations follow the arrest of
two of his victims (aged 14 and 16) and the discovery of girls as young
as 11 who he has allegedly forced into sex work within popular areas of
prostitution in Washington D.C. The case materialises in light of new
advertising drives to increase awareness of trafficking amongst the
general public within D.C., led by Shared Hope International.
WOMAN AND SON WITH SUSPECTED LINKS TO TRAFFICKING ORGS CHARGED IN RELATION TO 30 YR OLD MAN
· A woman and her son
from Miami were arrested this week in relation to charges of smuggling,
forced detention, and attempted extortion from forced labour. It seems
a 30 year old Guatamalan man was smuggled into Bradenton, and held
whilst his family were told they had to pay for his transportation fee
and release. Law officers were contacted by a family member of the
victim, also resident in Bradenton. The FBI has suggested that the
suspects may be linked with human trafficking organisation, but have
not released further information.
Hong Kong
WOMEN SEX TRAFFICKERS FACE CHARGES IN HONG KONG
· Four Filipino women,
between the ages of 26 and 47, face charges in relation to trafficking
women into Hong Kong to work within the sex industry. The four women
charged manage their own premises selling sex – where five other women
were found and charged the same day with breaching the conditions of
their visas – which state they should be working as domestic workers.
Strong evidence against the accused sex traffickers has led
commentators to expect no bail.
