JADE DAY TO RELEASE OF WAKING…. MAY 1st

Austin, TX - - Back from two national tours in support of his last album, Jade Day is set to release his newest work, Of Waking… May 1st – an album that is undeniable evidence of an artist evolved.  Throwing off the trappings of youth, Jade steps forward with a collection of 10 new songs bent on breaking boyish idealism.  Moving melodies and smart song-craft expose Jade's latest work to be that rare combination of innovation and musical maturity.

Returning to the virtues of acoustic music, Of Waking… emphasizes the direct relationship between voice and guitar.  Jade's greatest asset - his distinctive dynamic tenor – is out front and center on this lighter, more concise album.  Produced and engineered by Stephen Orsak (Suzanna Choffel), the album is both sparse and ornate at times, utilizing folk and chamber instruments such as mandolin, glockenspiel, double bass, and strings to create a timeless sound.

Thematically, Jade explains, "this album is about the process of enlightenment that we (may) experience over time…the letting go of youthful ideas of what life and love should be in favor of a broader understanding."  The first single, "Switchboard Fantasy," takes a more playful approach, grappling with the timeless drama with lyrics like, "…and we run- circles around the sun- circles around the ones we love."   In a literal sense, the title also refers to Jade's songwriting process: a carefully kept morning ritual where musings stream from pure woken consciousness.

Players include mainstay percussionist, Wayne Duncan, adding some rhythmic witchcraft and bassist John Thomasson (David Garza, Matt Nathanson) offering upright expertise.  Guests include percussionist Phil Bass (Monte Montgomery), Rob Greenfield on piano, Suzanna Choffel on backing vocals, and a special guest appearance by violinist Jamie Desautels (David Byrne) who offers a stirring string arrangement on "Bow to Reason."

A Colorado native, Jade Day is currently based in Austin while continuing to make a name for himself nationally.  He has released three albums to date and continues to forge the independent road to success.  His music has been praised in the Rock, Singer-Songwriter, Folk, and now Pop arenas, and his remarkable voice and songwriting appeal to an ever-widening audience.

Dates will be announced soon for special release shows in Austin and Jade's other fan-based areas of Denver and New York City.  Of Waking… will be available locally at Waterloo Records and End of an Ear Records, online at www.cdbaby.com/cd/jadeday2 , and for download at all major digital retailers.  For more information on Jade Day, please visit www.jadeday.com or www.myspace.com/jadeday .
