[DEMONIC METAL] I don't think I'd be fooling anyone by acting like I listen to a lot of death metal, but I'm pretty sure Portland's Brainsic (tonight's opener) is a rad death metal band. First off, they're all kindsa heavy—deep, pounding drums abound, in-unison stops and starts are hella tight and the vocals are nothing if not demonic. And, get this, there are dual-demon vocals! I shit you not: The voice of a high-pitched skrieking, elfish demon and a thunderous, bellowing, large-bodied demon play in and around one another in perfect death-metal harmony. Wait—I think I just made out the "F" word! Plus, there's a song called "Sheep to Bleed." In all honesty, Brainsic makes me smile (it really does, and I really don't mean that condescendingly).
