I have had the very great pleasure this year of leading the Covenant service in all of the Churches in the section of the circuit that i look after.
it really is a beautiful service. i was also able to lead the service at the Anglican church at Grange where the vicar who i was sharing the service with described it as the jewel of the Methodist Church
i know not everyone who reads this blog is a Methodist so you may not get the chance to formally say the prayer each year like we do.
for that reason i have decided to reproduce the text of the prayer here so that you can consider it and then hopefully pray it.
be aware, however, that it is a prayer that requires action. It is a prayer of commitment that should sit at the heart of who we are
The Covenant Prayer
I am no longer my own but yours.
Put me to what you will,
rank me with whom you will;
put me to doing, put me to suffering;
let me be employed for you or laid aside for you,
exalted for you or brought low for you;
let me be full, let me be empty,
let me have all things, let me have nothing;
I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things to your pleasure and disposal.
And now, glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
you are mine and I am yours.
So be it.
And the covenant made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
