SOUTHWALESMUSICSCENE

2006

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME WITH MISERY SIGNALS WAS INTENSE! BTBAM ARE THE BEST BAND I HAVE EVER SEEN LIVE.

THE LAUNCH OF THE NEW STAGE AT LE PUB WITH DDF/THE THREAT/TODAY OR NEVER/THE DEATH OF HER MONEY/THE KEEP WAS THE BEST FREE SHOW, AND PROBABLY THE MOST RAM OUT SHOW I HAVE EVER BEEN TO THERE..AND WENT ON TIL NEARLY 1AM..TOTALLY UNEXPECTED

SHATTERED REALM + KNUCKLEDUST RANK HIGHLY

AND THE VIBE FROM PARKWAY DRIVE/SHAPED BY FATE (@ clwb)

SOUTHWALES BENIFIT 2006 WAS OFF THE HOOK. BUT THE TURN OUT WASN'T THAT GREAT UNTIL NEARLY THE END OF THE EVENING. I WON THE RAFFLE ASWELL AND GOT SOME KILLA CD'S. I DID FEEL BAD FOR THE DJ'S. THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME PLAYING TO 3 PEOPLE AT A TIME.

SUICIDE SILENCE/SYLOSIS AND ABIGAIL WILLIAMS WERE ALL TIGHT AS FUCK, BUT THE VIBE AT THE SHOW WASN'T UP TO MUCH

THE SMILE I GET FROM ANY TWIST THE KNIFE SHOW, ESPECIALLY WITH MISUSE, DISPATCH, ELSID OR MLM MAKE THEM SOME OF THE BEST SHOWS ASWELL!

LOCAL BANDS HAVE IMPRESSED ME NO END THIS YEAR, AND IM LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT THEY HAVE TO SHOW FOR THEMSELVES IN 2007!

id have to say december 3rd, london underworld with my band miss conduct.

the first band were awful, so much so that kerrang left them out of the review. the second band flood of red were alrite, bit too underoath for my liking tho. then we went on and the crowd was absolutely insane, a good 300 of them packed into the venue. stagediving, crowdsurfing, hundreds of kids singing along and chanting. kids trying to grab my legs and touch my guitar.

absolute madness, play the london underworld. its the best.

benj - miss conduct

hmmmm...thats a toughy. the best gig iv ever played with last minute tragedy is either with hondo maclean and sbf in cwmaman hall, because it was just an honor to play with them, or this gig we played in maesteg, and that was just awesome becuase the crowd response we had was really cool, and it was packed :)

Its hard decide with all the bands I have seen. some of the greatest gigs I have been to have been Iron Maiden at reading, Cooper Temple Clause the first time i saw them.. the pit was just incredible, a mix of rock with a bit of a dancey vibe.. was mad. Theres the Foos at Reading, and then theres Muse. With Muse there have been special gigs like the the Shepherds Bush Empire gig last year where only a 1000 people won tickets to go and hear the new material. As awesome as that was, seeing them at Earls Court 2004.. I think that gig stands out as the best gig I have ever been too. One huge finish to the year and the bands tour, going all out and being absolutly crazy.

My favourite gig was at St Davids Hall in Cardiff!! The crowd was awesome, the lighting and sound crew were awesome, and it just went awesomely! Love that venue! I had my own dressing room rather than a pub toilet for once lol!!

The best gig I've been to this year was on wednesday night...

Elsid, Twist The Knife and Circa Regna Tonat? It was packed and I loved every second...

There were a bunch of technical problems (mics etc) but it  was off the hook...

I recommend that anyone go see these bands...

Elsid/Twist The Knife shows are always a must see

Peace Out Boy Scout

THE THREAT - FREE EP DOWNLOAD

Best gig I've (we've) ever played is either with Irate/Blades Of Unity in Liverpool orJob For A Cowboy or even DDF/Desecration. JFAC crowd reaction was awesome but DDF/Desecration/The Keep was amazing because it was the first gig I have ever put one and it was packed out, and the fact they are some of my favourite s.wales bands.  The best gig we'll ever play will probably be All Shall Perish/DDF/The Threat in March.

Best gig i've ever seen was Pantera in Newport Center in 2000 or Hatebreed/Stampin' Ground in TJ's 2002ish

Best gig I've been to: Pantera, Newport....the best time of my life....handsdown

Best gig played: Sounds silly, but Matisse Music Venue, in Haverfordwest. Crowd was wild, and there are bars at the front of the stage to do some sick stage dives off lol....

Best gig as a band ........ London Hippodrome in front of 3500 fans of ours when we had a huge following ..in those days , way back :-)

Best gig been to.......... I think it was hard to describe what an amazing gig that Duran Duran's comeback at Wembley Arena in 2005 actually was. It still stands out ! And the women...................WOW !

Misuse

Played for me and my various bands:
From the ashes: Evilfest2 London 1999/2000????. Playing Skidrow riffs and people singing along even before we started. Sick moshing.

Lindenhey: The Hanover hotel Liverpool. Bass player smashed my face open windmilling in our set insted of actually playing. Blood and sweat and free drinks.

Taken for dead: Last show, in ghosty's front room. CRAZY!!!!!!

Misuse: 27th oct with TTK and elsid. Dressed as beavis drunk as a skunk going ape shit. but Jayx's Bday show was the shizzle too.

My personal favourite not my band shows ever are:
Comeback kid Lepub 2003
Gary pugh's Bday show 2006
Anytime down to nothing have played
Good clean fun in lepub
Sick of it all 1997 reading

I dunno if its the best gig ever but its my favourite.

midasuno, angels cry, dividing the line and johnny action finger in carmarthen.

there were so many problems and it was so stressful but at the end of the night scott hanging upside down from a balcony singing the words 2 shock horror, it made the night worth it lol

I still remember a christmas show in the welsh club it was probably 98 or 99(its was long enough ago that i struggling) the line up was headling Douglas, then Shootin' Goon and openning the Lost Prophets!

I will always remember Ian walking on stage and saying, "We're not a punk band, we're not a ska band! But we'll try and put on a good show!" and christ! Did they rock!

Then shootin' goon! Top floor of the welsh, everyone skanking so hard that the floor was moving and i dont mean a little bit!

Douglas to top it off! They were on fire that night, it went off!

It was a true showcase of how strong the local scene was back then, and will stand out in my memory for that reason!

for raw emotion and energy it'd have to anti-flag at the welsh club, it was an awesome gig cause the bassist for the support fell off the stage and we watched a guy throw up into his hand and throw it on the floor and pretend it wasnt him! Haha but RX Bandits are shitt hot live and so are Farse so it's a hard one! For local shows see El Sid, they shit metal.

Either Wheatus in Cardiff Barfly, Christina Aguilera in Birmingham NIA (2006), Jamie Cullum in St Davids Hall weren't bad either.

Best gig I've played is probably TOC with SaidMike, or New Years Eve (2006) with SaidMike at Studio Bar, or one of downstairs at Clwb Truckers Of Husk gigs...the one with the drum competition probably.

Most memorable gigs I have ever been to in Tom's have been

24th March 2005 - 2 days after my birthday went and saw  S.K.W.A.D and it was so busy that night I was litterally queing up outside the building.

23rd March 2006 - day after my birthday saw Said Mike (think it was when they first started selling T-shirts) it was so over croweded upstairs you could hardly move, although at least this time I saw the support bands (think I missed Black Man's Pinch but that's mostly cause I turned up late). Kinda freakish how last two birthdays on the thursday Dane is playing drums and its overcrowded.

but the most memorable gig was 4th July 2006 US Band ArnoCorps played the only welsh date on their uk Tour and when they got to a song about The Terminator my friend Gaz jumped on stage naked asking "I need your clothes your boots and your motorcycle"

there's probably many other thousands of gigs I thought were great at the time but alcohole has a habbit of causing memory loss

possibly propagandhi in bristol beerkeller. they just stood there and hardly moved, but the energy of the music they were playing and the passion of the lyrics just blew me away.

or maybe killswitch engage in bristol (again, i swear the best gigs are always in bristol) academy where as i lay dying were surprise guests and they ruled. but ill always remember howard stopping singin half way through rose of sharyn coz he couldnt hear himself. then as soon as the song finished 'wow, you guys are the loudest fucking crowd ive ever heard'.

Mmh tough one...

Best line up for a gig i've bin too was Thine Eyes Bleed, Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, In Flames and Slayer on the unholy alliance tour in 06... COB, LOG and IF played absolutely brilliantly, shame about the crowd...

Best crowd was probably Enter Shikari in the Solus '06, broke my nose three times in the pit each time snapping it back into place...

My favourite crowd and band performance was probably Mad Caddies at the Solus in 04, first time I went crowd surfing...

Favourite gig just for sentimental reasons, probably Howards Alias, my first ever gig, in Brecon Vaults back in May 02 or 03 one of them years...
