One of the cornerstones of business is to cut your losses and move on. Many a hit artist has found themselves out in the cold when the sales report on their latest CD has come back weak. Movie projects get shelved, TV shows get canceled and stocks take a plunge. It is a simple economic decision. Rooting for the underdog is a sucker bet. Why lose your shirt dragging a dead horse when you could be flying high riding on the latest band wagon. From time to time, much to the amazement of the unbelievers dreams do come true. IBM rejects Bill Gates and Microsoft is born. NBC cancels Star Trek and an entertainment empire grows to span galaxies where no man has gone before. For better or for worse Queen Isabella believed in Columbus, EMI signed the Beatles, men walked on the moon, Darth Vader had twins, The NY Giants won the Super Bowl and Barack Obama became president. There is no end to the list of events in human history which owe fruition to a person of vision having a dream and the faith to make it so. Only Clive Davis knows why he stuck with Whitney Houston through her personal recession. Anybody else would have kicked her to the curb and distanced themselves long ago. As a music lover who longs for a return to good songwriting and professional artistry I am glad that he did. The new album is balanced and pretty decent. I pray that Whitney honors this opportunity and not do a Daryll Strawberry.
