Hey all,
Had something happen this week that really made me think. I had an old girlfriend from the past look me up and find this page. We had an amazingly hurtful break up (or two) especially for me.
I was floored when after like 13 years, she contacted me to say.... she was sorry for the fact that she hurt me as much as she did all that time ago. Both of us have moved on and are married to great people with young families, but apparently, our issues were on her heart enough to reach out to me and sincerely apologize for what happened when we were in college.
What was my response?
I forgave her as requested of course. Why?
Not because it was time to let bygones be bygones, or because of all the years that had passed, but simply, because she sincerely asked.
From Jesus' mouth in Luke 17:4
If he (she) sins against you seven times in a day day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him (her)"
Lack of ability to give forgiveness and is one of the biggest reasons for conflict, death and suffering today. A lot of good could come from a lesson of forgiveness like I lived this week.
To be honest, it made me think of people that I had wronged in the past and making things right with them - man- got some work to do there.
The best thing about forgiveness is that is breaks a cycle of wrongs.
It takes a big person with a good heart to ask for forgiveness.
