At long last, the national nightmare that has been the Bush Administration is finally over.  Thank God!

BAD BUSH! No banana!

Smarter and more articulate people that I will summarize his failures and outright crimes, so it really isn't necessary to describe them all in detail here.  That would be a long, long, post since there are so many!

It's laughable to hear them unrepentant and arrogant to the end; trying to retroactively change their abysmal record. Hey guys, saying something doesn't make it so!  If you ask Dick "The Penguin" Cheney, he has no regrets about anything he did.  The scary thing is that I believe him... more's the pity.  They say history will be kind to their time in power but here's what I think they will be remembered for:

"We didn't make any mistakes!"

- Coming to power (as opposed to being elected) in 2000 under highly questionable circurmstances.  I dream of how much better-off America would be were I writing about the end of the Gore Adminstration!

- Retaining power by the tiniest of margins in 2004 using electoral gamesmanship, then declaring they had a mandate.

- Starting a fraudulent war in Iraq that bankrupted the country and funneled billions of dollars to their corporate political benefactors.

5000 Americans killed, 100,000+ Iraqis killed, country bankrupted.  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

- When the war DID bankrupt the country, they authorized even MORE deficit spending to arrange bailouts for Wall Street while thousands of families lost their homes.

"Mr. President, America is under attack!"

- History will record that Bush sat there in a stupor after he was informed that America was under attack on 9-11!

- Failing to capture Osama Bin Laden after the 9-11 attacks and not even really trying!  Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

- Causing irreversible harm to thousands of NYC first-responders and downtown residents by declaring the post 9-11 air safe to breathe.  I hope you burn in Hell for that, Christie Todd Whitman!

- Used 9-11 to erode personal freedoms at home and ignore the Geneva Conventions abroad, thus emboldening our enemies and serving their cause.

"You're doing a heckuva job, Brownie!"

- Doing nothing to save a major American city from a natural disaster, then dragging their feet with the reconstruction for political ends.

- Allowing their corporate cronies to foul the planet by refusing to provide EPA oversight.

- Allowing their corporate cronies to collapse the economic system by refusing to provide SEC oversight.

"Why do you hate the President so much George?"you may ask.  Read here.

The bet here is that no member of the Bush Administration (other than Scooter Libby) will ever be held legally responsible for their misdeeds.  These people will never, ever see justice for what they did.  They should all be jailed for what they did but that isn't going to happen.

Years ago I agreed with President Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon because I felt America needed to move on.  Now I regret that stance, because it set a bad precedent for much-worse future presidents.

Don't let these guys escape justice the way Nixon did!

In 1974 when Nixon resigned, I felt it was OK to pardon him because it was punishment enough to have to resign and live out the rest of his life in disgrace.  Alas, George W. Bush and his cohorts will get away scot-free.  The only justice they may see is themselves being eviscerated by history ten or fifteen years  from now.

The one and only thing I will miss about the Bush Administration is the bond of hating them so much that I shared with my DW Terri for the past eight years.  I hope we can find something new that we are both that passionate about!

"I had my hand up his back the entire time!"

From President Bush's Farewell Address the other night, it's plain to see how delusional and disconnected from reality he is.  Somehow he thinks he did such a good job that should take a bow!  Amazingly, he genuinely believes he was a great president!  "I made the tough decisions," he bristled, ignoring the fact that he was almost invariably wrong on every single one!

Terri and I watched him say goodbye, with her soft slippers from the closet beside her on the couch.  Whenever Dumbass let out a particulary huge whopper she threw her slippers at the TV. Hey, no sense wrecking a good set over it!

I pray this guy does a lot better.  He could hardly do worse, but he is inheriting quite a mess!

Soon a new Democratic President will take office, and what a mess he inherits!

President Obama,  I hope that somehow you and your administration will find a way to start to heal the country.  I pray you can undo the damage the previous administration has done by their misgovernance.  May God watch over you and give you strength.  You're going to need it!

Heckuva job Bushies!  You should all be real proud of yourselves!

...and if you voted for them, YOU SHARE IN THE CULPABILITY!

N.B. My buddy Eon, a retired NYPD cop, wrote the following comment but couldn't post it. I am posting it for him, pre his request.

hey George! Try as I may, I can't seem to send a comment on your terrible relevant post. So here goes, maybe you can post it if you like but I'm done for now....

Couldn't agree with you more, old bean!

What I'll remember about the Bush II years-

1/08/01; allright, so the election is a bust and I "guess" W. really did win the vote (final vote count not official for two years) but as I walk around DC there's a strange twist in the air. It's all remeniscent of Stone's JFK. You look at the White House and see a nuetrino-ish haze of intimidation and foreboding.
Premonition? Could be!

9/11/01; after working for 23 straight twelve hour days with the tennis open and the Mets happening simultaneously finally, a day off; the 10th! With the promise of seven more glorious days of bliss away from redneck nation. The 11th; small cessna hits the Towers around 9am, big fire way up in the air sounds like an FD job, wasn't a small plane it was a jet, what was the pilot drunk or something? Still big fire, watching it on the telly, now they're talking terrorist blah, blah, blah, think, think, recall; back in '93 a bomb, terrorists, the same thing! I was off that day as well and they didn't need me so it looks like they have more than enough for this, back to sleep. One eye open watching tower burn until in the lower left hand corner of the screen in shoots another jet into the other tower, audible gasps from network news reporters.
State of siege!

Ah shit, won't be able to dodge this bullet. No sleep 'til the spring.

9/12/01-2/01/02; no days off, twelve hour days, redneck nation has lost any semblance of objectivity (as if they had any to begin with) and lashes out at all the usual suspects and I'll quote; the fucking liberals, fags, towel heads, anarchists, camel jockeys, Iraq, cocksucking liberals, clinton, illegals, hipsters, socialist/communists, clinton, gore, clinton/gore, clinton, hillary, nader, Iraq?.....and it goes on and on for the next six months, grim death tolls; fortunately none of my cop friends who'd defected from the harsh Soviet climate of the PD to the benevolently Swedish one of the Fire department are all accounted for, which is a miracle since they lost so many.

I notice the working class mustache is suddenly back in style.

'til winter of '03 all is a blur, all I remember is standing around in that idiot costume waiting, waiting, waiting,,,,and waiting for something to happen as the drumbeat grows louder under the 59st bridge....just a year and a half away......soviet subsidy.....

winter '03; finally! Lets get Iraq!!!!! Redneck nation gets high on war, just the prospect is enough to give them a nice rush.

Meanwhile back at the ranch; future pensioners are gearing up for demonstrations bulging with overtime.
War is declared!! No reason or objective but who cares? Everybody knows they were behind it, what are you, some kind of commie?

The demonstrators are mocked as uninformed, fuzzy headed liberals, weak, tepid and out of touch with their inner GI Joe. Redneck nation calls them cowardly and naive as they monitor gathering demonstrators in the bitter cold from the warm confines of the temporary headquarters. The costume is strangling me.

4/20/04; I'm out!!!!! They let me go!!!!! The horror is over!!! Happy days are here again!! Stuff the bong and clang a gong!!!

I do cartwheels out the door of the "Pentagon" (Police Plaza) but the euphoria is short lived, no longer a dues paying member of redneck nation but still a tax paying citizen of Bush II, the sequal. War's not going so good, lots of dead soldiers and I don't mean drained bottles of Coors lite. As I depart, redneck nation says it doesen't care.

11/09/04; the manchild is re-elected, again under circumstances suspect. I'm in London, the Brits think we've all gone mad. In retrospect, I think Kerry would have been a mistake as well. He would have been so hung up trying to out-fascist the fascists that we'd be in the same place anyway. It's open to debate; but.

08/28/05; New Orleans sinks into the mud of the delta basin, I take it back, even Kerry couldn't fuck this up as badly as W. A true natural disaster of such proportion that it basically wrecks a popular American city and all W.
and Prince of Darkness Cheney can do is shrug their shoulders and smirk?
WTF? You can send all the the troops and military assistance at your disposal half a world away to crush an enemy that doesen't even exist but a major catastrophe is palmed off to the nearest contractor with unlimited credit? The straw that breaks the camels back.

Well those are just some of the highlights, but I do have more. just not enough time right now but one more thing about Bush II which will even get a redneck to sit up and notice, if not think; gas price at the end of the Clinton; around $1.50, maybe $1.75 a gal. Nice and steady. At end of Bush II; $1.80-$2.00 a gal. In between; $2,$3,$4, $4.75 a gal.

I'm sure there's more to it than that but I'm done for now.
Hey George, when are you playin' again?
