Current mood: adventurous
Seems as if everyone has gone to Facebook, but I admit, I do not check my MySpace site nearly as much as I used to. I still like it though, and it gives me the opportunity to blog like this, whereas FB doesn't really offer that feature. In any case, figured I should put some updates to you.
As you probably know, Rock 108 is proud to FINALLY bring back the long-awaited return of ROCKSTOCK!! I'm thrilled, and pretty awed that we got Korn to headline the show - by far, the biggest name brand band to headline a Rockstock, and having Chevelle and Hailstorm on the bill ensures that RSIII will be a terrific show.
I'm jacked about some new tunes/bands that I have added and one I have yet to play on radio. There's a new band I'm into called JANUS. Look up and listen to "Eyesore" and let me know what YOU think of the track. I think it's pretty cool.....I'm happy about the response to "Dragonfly" by the band from Jefferson City, MO called SHAMAN'S HARVEST. They are also on MySpace, so check out the track if you have not heard it on Rock 108. (People seem to think it's the new Sevendust) I took a shot on this track - there are only 3 rock stations in the United States playing it, not including Rock 108 - but so far the response has been really strong.
New music rules my world, and I also like other tunes that are not on Rock 108 that are pretty cool like, Band Of Skulls, Street Sweeper Social Club, The Dead Weather, and also some new releases that do fit Rock 108 well like, the new Sick Puppies CD, love the new Alice In Chains track, "Invincible" by Adelita's Way is terrific, Five Finger Death Punch's "Hard To See" is gonna be a big hit for the band, and I still love Lacuna Coil's "Spellbound". Good music.
PAYOLA-FREE ZONE ALBUM REVIEW:
(Oh, wait. I have the CD. Got it free in the mail.)
DANKO JONES - Never Too Loud (Bad Taste Records)
Another band from Toronto who gets no love in the USA....Danko Jones. Canadian bands like Thornley, The Tragically Hip, The Tea Party, I Mother Earth, Matthew Good Band, Our Lady Peace and a hundred others just don't sell well down here in the States. Then again, one can argue that you have Theory Of A Deadman, Nickelback and Three Days Grace doing quite well for themselves. Odds are however, those Canadian bands are the lucky few who actually "make it" in America.
But, one way to not sell records in America
is to not have a U.S. distributor to get the CD in stores. 'Never Too Loud' has been in stores for a long time in Canada and the rest of the world - it was released almost a year and a half ago in February 2008 - but it's going to be officially released in the U.S. on September 8th. Finally!
Danko Jones has been nominated for 4 Juno awards in their homeland and have a strong fan base in Europe. But, not much success at all in America.
'Never Too Loud' has been in rotation in my home and car since February 2008 at various points in time. You may remember their song 'Lovercall' from 2007 that we still play occasionally on Rock 108. Danko churns out some catchy, fun, goofy fun on their records and I like that as a relief from the "we all sound the same" bands.
They'll probably never make it in the U.S., but Danko Jones is in my album collection. It's kind of dirty, fun, 'not taking ourselves too seriously' hard rock, and it's my "Presidents Of The USA"-kind of band these days. If you like straight ahead rock songs with a bit of humor, check out 'Never Too Loud' by Danko Jones. Fun stuff. Find it on September 8th at the link below...
