Current mood: catalyzed Category: Life
Since most of ya'll haven't heard from us in a while I've decided to blog about what we've been up to the last couple of months.
J and I moved into a house in lovely Belmont Mass near Fresh Pond with our buddy Ronny. It has lots of closets, a HUGE back yard (stay tuned for Fluttreffect flag football this spring/summr), garden plots, hardwood floors, a garage, washer, dryer, and a dish washer! It needs to be painted but that won't happen 'till it's warmer outside. I like the fucked up paint though. It makes our place stick out like a gothic sore thumb in our little neck of the 'burbs. We've started calling the place Belmeat Estates since all residents share a common carnivorous affinity for dead flesh.
Anyhoo J and I have turned the basement, the living room and the small bathroom downstairs into Belmeat Studios where we are diligently working on the next Fluttreffect album. It's sooo much better to be recording in our own space at our own pace dictated by our moods and watching Val sit on the toilet while recording cello. We've already recorded songs, hated them, trashed them and started over THAT is a luxury we can't afford in a "real" studio. Heck what's not to like about working in house slippers and a robe?
We've written news songs that we're very excited about. The sound has obviously changed a bit with the departure of Kara. Me and Val are taking the vocal duties once again. I'm using some synthesizers and other effects on my voice. Peter Frampton covers will be coming along shortly! There's a lot more harmony vocals now since we've made Vess and J start singing too! Musically this next batch is sounding more stripped down and rock than Marking Time but I feel we are finally capturing some of our live energy on tape. I liken the progression to Faith No More's "Angel Dust" and "King For A Day.." if Marking Time was Angel Dust.
We don't have a time frame yet for an album release but we will be releasing some non album singles in the near future so stay tuned.
Vess has a new kick ass sound box called the Muse Receptor that has opened up a world of new possibilities and a world of work to learn how to utilize them. Eventually she will be controlling the house mix, the lights, the beer taps and air traffic at Logan with that thing as well as playing marimba.
Live performance-wise we are still in hiatus to concentrate on the creation of the new album. The ladies are still performing out in various and sundry combinations, occasionally even with one of the boys.
All-in-all 2008 is shaping up to be a great year for us so get ready to be blown away AGAIN! More, bettr, biggr.....Fluttreffect!!!
