"It's been a long time, shouldn't have left you, without a dope blog to step to..."
A few weeks ago I was gonna talk about
1. How Gordon Brown has been annoying me with his fantastic leadership skills and how he's been dealing with the banks, bankers and bonuses but then I decided to stop watching the news cos I was gettin easily irritated.
2. The Chris Brown and Rihanna episode! Nuff said. Truth be told, I wasn't gonna pay it any mind until someone sent that stupid street fight footage which had me cracking up at a serious issue...not good. We don't know all the details yet, so I'm not getting into it.
3. How I hope Slumdog producers give some of the proceeds back to Mumbai, esp the fam whose kids acted in the movie.
In the end I said forgerit, when I feel to write - I will. Today I feel to.
NOTORIOUS
One of my pet hates is people telling me the end of a film, it's like watching part 3 of a trilogy if I haven't seen parts 1 and 2. Fortunately Notorious is like the Titanic - we all know what happens in the end(most do anyway). I used to be the biggest Biggie fan ever. Those that know me well know this. In 93 when I heard Biggie, the way I looked at the art of rap changed. For the first time I thought here's someone who can test me on the mic (I was that good...jokes...I was a young rapper with oodles of confidence). People talk about Dilla when it comes to beats, for me back then it was Premier, Pete Rock and Easy Mo Bee. The first full track I heard was Party and Bullsh*. I loved it. When I heard unbelievable and dreams, he became my favourite MC. When I got the ready to die album I remember reading through the sleevenotes as a plethera of images and sounds bombarded my senses. He was the first rapper I heard and thought I shouldn't be listening to this unsavoury filth, but he was just so good at what he did, I couldn't help turn a blind ear. I think Biggie's accident made him see the light and think he was starting to sort his life out, it would've been interesting to know what album would've been after "Life after Death".
Anyways I didn't want to watch Notorious, after hearing a less than good report. Then I thought if the film is wack, just deal with it. You know u wanna see it, so I did. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be but it wasn't great either. We had 8mile, that 50 film and this should have been better than both but wasn't. It was better than the 50 one tho.
This was always gonna be hard to do, because it involves a whirla people still alive. Lil Kim wasn't happy with who portryed her, apparently she wanted Christina Milian to play her...as if she ever resembled her!! The girl who played her was pretty and did well. I noticed how they left out some key peeps like Jay Z and Charlie Baltimore, but hey. The major problem was that it was from the perspective of Mrs Wallace and Puffy. Which is why it seemed sanatised at times. Even 2pac wasn't thugged out and wild enough, but that would obviously not have been a good look. For that reason it was never gonna be a BIG film, but overall you got painted an okayish pic...if you didn't know him at all or that well.
What are your thoughts?
