Mirror, a poem I wrote to honor my friend, Thomas Penick, aka dadhiltonmps.  It was inspired by a short experimental film, Aye Stalkeen, he posted to YouTube.  You can find the film here:

Here is the poem.

I stand before a funhouse mirror and see in crystalline depth

Myself receding endlessly. But I am never kept

Within refractive worlds apart from what I know to be.

'tis only image, not myself, in lurking symmetry.

It is not truth that wakes behind the simple silvered glass.

I know this, for but moments past stood here a dark-haired lass,

Who paused to gaze into the false reflections of her face,

Then wandered on, and left the mirror a stark and empty place.

I cannot hold the image that once lived within the pane.

Though with all my heart I'd like to, it is not her true domain.

Wow!! That's really REALLY good! U should maybe consider doing some more for youtube. Your a Great writer and a Great narrator!

Wow, Urgelt!

Outstanding. I just happened to click on this "Mirror" one first and Voila! I was surprised.
Now, I am going to go to bed. My night is complete.

The girl who commented on your poem was telling the whole truth and nothing but. I have nothing to add.

TP

P.S. I take you at your word. I will use it in my AYE STALKEEN only if you recite it.

Thomas, I'll read it for you. Let me know if you're in a rush, otherwise I'll just add it to the queue.

Mind you, the only equipment I have is a microphone built-in to my tiny digital camera.

Please make this promise: once you have the audio, your decision to use it or not will be governed by your creative vision for the work. Do not permit yourself to be constrained. The integrity of your film is your only obligation. -- T.

Yes. Urgelt.

I very much want you to read it. Put it in the queue. I am working on a film that I will make in 2007.
The title "HUM."

Your microphone sounds better than any of the fancy sennheiser microphones that I borrowed for the Mitchell Interviews. I think that I know what happened. I am going to use the sennheiser mikes again on Dec. 9, 2006 at the marriott hotel near LAX airport. In any event, record the narration at your leisure. You have access to the film so you place it where you want as long as it is over AYE STALKEEN. I might add a bit more footage to both of them while they are at the mirror. I want to do more with the footage I shot of The Lady in the Black Top. She listens to voices in the sky almost like a Revelation, a spiritual re-awakening that she undergoes. I think that I will use Tiana Flores' voice since my old actress got married on me and is unavailable for voiceovers. So, that is it for tonight. Thank you Urgelt

P.S. How many seconds does your poem play? It is 40 seconds. Good. I will make sure that the recut of AYE STALKEEN before the mirrors covers 45 seconds, giving us a handle on both ends of the cut.

Dear Urgelt,
I am thinking about using "Aye Stalkeen" in one of the memory sequences of "HUM." I will probably do so. When I do this, I would need quite a bit more narration from you, if you have other lines of this Poem available. I won't need anything until August of 2007.
Talk soon
All my best,
Thomas
