Notes from the road 10/22/09
Santa Monica, CA

Got up at 7am this morning to do some radio interviews (hello, Muncie; hello, Durango; hello, Park City!), and since I had to drink coffee to wake up for those I couldn’t just go back to bed.  So I drove down to the beach, turned inland and found a trailhead in Topanga State Park, then took a nice long hike in the Santa Ynez Canyon.  The smell of the sage combined with the ocean air was incredible; I wish they made a perfume like that.

I’m hoping to find a pool table close to our show in Glendale tomorrow, as I am spoiling for a rematch after Keith defeated me in Petaluma.  Now, I am a girl who can shoot some pool, and it looked like I had him on the ropes, but I guess I just got too cocky….or maybe it was Wendell’s trash talking through the entire game that distracted me.  He kept talking about giving us youngsters a shellacking, about how it was time for the old men to teach us a lesson.  So Wendell played the winner, trash talking all the while, talking to the ball, even putting some sort of spell on the cue as Keith was lining up his shots.  It was neck and neck, the tension mounting, where were the cameras?...but Keith emerged victorious and Wendell said it would be up to Popsy to teach us ALL a lesson.  I think I feel a tournament coming on….

One thing I have learned about pool....pay homage to the Pool Gods. Trash talkers beware...they hate that almost as much as someone trying to claim a shit shot as their own. I will light something for the gods for you Joan...stand in the gap, so to speak.

Sounds like you're having some fun along the way.  I can't wait to see you in Durango.  I missed you in Santa Fe, so I had to spring for a hotel room and tickets.  I'm also more than willing to drive the extra miles.  See you in five days.  I'll be the Native guy with long hair in seat #7 of the first row waving from the orchestra pit.  Ha, ha, what can I say I'm in a good mood.

I like that you are having fun on the road, just like you are having fun when you are onstage. My girlfriend and I really loved the show you did in Modesto, CA. Best concert I have ever been too.

LOVE memories of playing pool with my dad growing up in Pittsburgh.  We had a little bit smaller pool table, that later became a catch-all for laundry, buffets at holiday times, and miscellaneous crap.  He taught me how to put English on a ball, play nine ball, rack a really tight rack, and break like a pro!  Later in life my ex husband and I spent many weekends at People's Billiards on Beale Street in Memphis.  I agree pitchers of beer tend to give you a lot more confidence with some shots!  You keep em honest Joan.  I am still trying to figure out when and where I can see you play live.  I just love your music, spirit, and confidence in yourself and your "womanly hips!"  Spoken from a woman who also enjoys wrapping someone up in all my curves :-)

Joan, I’ve been a huge fan for the last year and finally will get to see you perform live!  You are an astonishing talent.  Can’t wait for your concert Friday night at the College of DuPage.  I’m coming up from Naples, Florida to catch the show!

It sounds like the bus has been a lot of fun.  However, if you are tired of those accommodations, we are your alternative.  Our townhouse is a mere 15 miles from the venue.   Should find yourself on the floor looking for a chair……….. we have one.  Should you find yourself on a chair looking for a couch……. we have one.  Should you find yourself on a couch….
