Current mood:  amused
Category: Music
I was recently asked what my favourite Duran Duran songs were, the reply was a long list of tracks (in some sort of chronological/album order) which got me thinking: 'Maybe I should post them on the blog and see if others want to post theirs. I will do the same for my other favourite artists from time to time.

So here are my favourite Duran Duran songs (I like a lot more than these of course but these are the essentials from 1981-present). Thanks to Asha for asking and making me think.

Late Bar
Careless Memories
Friends Of Mine
Sound Of Thunder
Anyone out there
Girls On Film (night version - v.important difference!)
My Own Way (album version)
Lonely In Your Nightmare
Save A Prayer
New Religion
Last Chance On The Stairway
Secret Oktober
Shadows On Your Side

Of Crime and Passion
Tiger Tiger
Seventh Stranger
The Flame (Arcadia)
Lady Ice (Arcadia)
Election Day (Arcadia)
A Matter Of Feeling
American Science
All She Wants Is
My Antartica
Sin Of The City
Ordinary World
Fallen Angel
So Long Suicide
What Happens Tommorow
Nice
Still Breathing

When I look back at the list, there is a suprising lack of the famous "big singles", it's not that I don't think they are great, just that they are so well known/overplayed... I've always been a fan of great album tracks and b-sides.

If you are into Duran then feel free to post your favourite songs in a comment. :)

I love all of the bands music....but those noted above really spoke to me...the same way today as they always have since I was 12 (way back in 1985) When I saw them two years ago in Montreal (first time, likely last time..lets hope not though) I had THE worst seats EVER and still, I was welled up with emotion, I cannot even begin to express how much joy I experienced at that show, despite my nosebleed seats!

Thanks so far to you lot for posting! Some great tracks mentioned (hard not to really). I can see some patterns forming too.

Also to the last poster, Duran were great live. Saw their outdoor "St Andrews home comming gig" in Birmingham (UK) a few years ago and that was pretty emotional, the sun was slipping (dripping?) down behind the stage as they launched into another classic. They played stuff they hadn't played for years inc their "Come up and see me" Cover. Saw them a couple of times before that too and each time they got better.

cheers...

Keep going... if ya got 'em, post 'em :)

Where does one start when it comes to Duran Duran... the most innovative artist on earth! I love all of their music. Our band covers Hungry Like The Wolf, Reach Up for the Sunrise, Girls on Film in our shows, they are very well received! We have always adored "Ordinary World" for its lyrics and euphoric energy. Rio is awesome, I named my pet iguana - Rio - after this cut. As I said before - love 'em all -- too numerous to mention. They have so much to give and we are grateful they keep on giving to the world and esp. to their die hard fans like us. Ivy James

At this moment in time (10:50am, March 1 2007) here is my top ten; in no particular order:

Do you believe in shame?
Serious
Come undone
Union of the snake
Hungry Like the Wolf
Secret Oktober
The Chauffeur
All she wants is
Ordinary World
Careless Memories

Since putting this together I’ve gone away, had a cup of tea and I’ve already changed my mind. I mean; where are Last Chance on the Stairway, Save a Prayer, Hold Back the Rain, New Religion, Late Bar, Seventh Stranger, Lonely in your nightmare, Cracks in the Pavement, Shadows are on your side, Is there something I should know, Vertigo, Winter Marches on, Wild Boys, A matter of feeling, Violence of Summer, Sunrise, Electric Barbarella, Too late Marlene, None of the above, I do what I do…, Election Day et all; not to mention... I could go on.

Cheers, Steve

oh screw it i agree with you i am all for the b-sides and non singles, i saw them here in boston in may, though they were awesome i was a bit disappointed that they only all of their "hits" . i would have loved to hear the chauffeur, new religion , etc , live. also off topic but i think next album if they decide to go with another "celebrity" producer i think they should do for the die hard fans and go with jonathan davis and do a record of the good darker funky stuff. i think he could really make a great sound and he's a fan to boot. just my two cents.
Thanks for adding me!!!

It's funny but every time I'd think of one of my favorites I'd check your list and see it there. Yeah anytime past or present when I would listen to the radio and they would announce a song coming up from Duran Duran, I'd sit there hoping that it would be something from this list versus the few that are linked with Duran Duran, and I would depending on the song listen or turn off the radio, thinking to myself "if only they knew what they were missing"
Here are a few I didn't see that are on my list...
Tel Aviv (first album last track)
      The Chauffeur
      Hold Me
Love your work!
