Rarely, if ever, have I felt the need to publicly vent after a gig. However, tonight, despite what I thought was a reasonable approximation of victory from the jaws of defeat from Teeth, I thought I really should put quill to parchment. After a lot of planning, publicity and hard work on the behalf of the promoters a night of 3 good bands was essentially rendered null and void by the Wilmington Arms management, who felt, in their wisdom, that Todd were too loud for their neighbours and unceremoniously sent them packing after hearing them soundcheck. Subsequently Friendship, who'd travelled no small distance themselves, were left with no kit to use and also had to abandon ship. This left a whole bunch of people who'd travelled to see Todd disappointed, and the promoters severely out of pocket due to ticket refunds and band travelling expenses. I mean where do you start? I'll keep it brief and just say a word of advice to the Wilmington - if you really have massive noise restrictions fair enough, but don't let promoters in all good faith book nights that involve LOUD music. In fact you probably really shouldn't have any amplified music in there at all. You might want to check this out in future before you take money from good people booking evenings. A word to any self-respecting bands that involve any amplification and are thinking of playing the Wilmington - Don't.
Yours drunkenly simmering,
Sam TOTS
