Who Gives Kudos:

Friday, June 05, 2009
Hi, everyone,
I'm at the hospital right now with my mom; she just had a triple bypass.  She is doing well right now.
The blues world just lost a TRUE legend in the passing of Koko Taylor.  She paved the way for all female blues artists, not only here in the US, but around the world.  If it weren't for Koko, I wouldn't be able to do what I do.  I have lost a friend, mentor, and my "Blues Mama."  I will think of her everyday, and she will live on in my heart for the rest of my life.
Koko Taylor is now -- and will always be -- the undisputed Queen of the Blues.
Love,
Shemekia
Karen

Koko was amazing. Prayers for your mother, glad she is doing well!

Good thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
I am a fan of both you and Koko! I recently downloaded from Itunes one song of yours, one of Koko and one of Etta. I am so thankful to all of you for the inspiration you send out in your music. I will always love that "down in the basement" blues Miss Koko Taylor's music is all about and thanks again for keeping it going in your music!!! Come on back to Duluth. Minnesota anytime!!! PEACE, Kristi

Prayers are being sent for your mother's speedy recovery.  My husband had a guad bypass so I know what it is like to go through with a loved one. My deepest sympathy at the loss of Miss Koko.  We were supposed to do an interview but she fell ill just before my visit to Chicago. I was also going to re-connect her with The Professor's son,Eddie Lusk III, as she had not talked with him since his father's passing. Prayers to all and inspiration for years to come.

When I was looking for some Koko videos on YouTube I was thinking just how much you remind me of her! :)  She will be sorely missed, and I'm sorry for the loss you're feeling, and that of anyone who appreciates good blues.

And a very speedy recovery to your mom! :)

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your mother, Shemekia.
So glad she's doing well!

We were privileged to see Koko look beautiful and perform  at the Blues Music Awards this year. She truly will never be forgotten—and of course you are a part of her legacy.

Thinking of you now, and hope to see you soon.
Much love, Margey & Brad

My thoughts and prayers go out to your mother as she recovers from her surgery.  You showed Koko the ultimate respect when you stated that she will always be the undisputed Queen of the Blues.  Saw you two do a show together in Glenside, PA back in '05, she blew me away with the greatest show I have ever seen.

Bless you both!  She'll be fine in no time.  You are my hero.  I met Koko 3 times in a span of 15 years, and she remembered me every time.  This last time, my band opened for her, and I waited to see her and to watch her, and I was devistated how her health took a toll on her.  But once she heard the music, she started moving and they waited to help her off stage.  She was a Light for all of us singers.  Take care of your MOm.
