Hi gang,

Just a quick notelette to let you know that the Screenwipe Review of the Year isn't on Tuesday (i.e. today). No. Just to confuse you, and to minimise the risk of anyone seeing it, it's scheduled for 24th December -- Christmas Eve innit -- at 10.00pm on BBC4, directly opposite the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special which will be slurping up viewers on BBC1. Hooray!

It's also repeated on BBC4 on 29th Dec at 10.50pm, New Year's Eve at five to midnight (which is nice), and on -- wow! -- BBC2 (y'know, *proper* telly) on the 2nd Jan at 11.45pm. So there's no excuse for missing it, unless you die five minutes after reading these words, in which case I'm truly sorry and I hope it isn't painful.

I'm back on BBC4 in 2009 with a new spin-off thingy and possibly a one-off thing about (whisper) videogames.

In other news, Channel 4 will be showing Dead Set in early January, in three hour-long chunks. What's nice about that is they've got an HD channel, haven't they? Which means if you're a ponce with a poncey HD TV and a poncey HD receiver, you should be able to watch all that blood sloshing around in pin-sharp puke-o-vision.

That's all. Oh, and Merry Christmas, if you pay attention to that sort of thing.

cb

Yeah, I was over the moon too when I saw that!

Right now I'm number one in the UK at Battlefield 2142.

Kind of hoping Mr B will want to talk to me about what it's like being such a no-life geek.

Balls, I was looking forward to watching Screenwipe tonight. Oh well, I can wait. It definitely takes priority over Gavin and Stacey.

Here's hoping the videogames thing can get picked up as a proper series of some sort. God knows us gamers need some more decent telly based around our favourite passtime. I mean PlayR has it's moments but it doesn't have much bite, no matter how much Rufus gives it his (oddly-facial-hair-configured) all, and Yahtzee is lost in Aussieland doing bright yellow flash animations...

It's Watch Again for me or the BBC2 showing, I don't have anything so fancy as BBC4. And I shall be looking forward greatly to finally catching Dead Set too on proper telly too.

Hopefully the Doctor Who Christmas special will be better than the tedious farragoes of the last two years. It looks more promising. Voyage Of The Damned indeed... very tasteful, Russell, thanks for that.

Have a great Christmas, if your curmudgeonly exterior will allow it.

But of course people pay attention to 'that sort of thing'. If they didn't, you wouldn't have a review of the year in the first place! My family are exactly the same. According to my niece, everything about Christmas is 'rubbish' and 'commercial' but heaven forfend that I ignore her 'wish list' and present her with a laminated certificate to the effect that a goat's been donated in her name to the children of Belgium.... I don't really want to discuss my brother's annual frenzy of retrospection as he struggles to reconcile the wonder of childhood with what he’s become: suffice to say that, despite protesting total indifference toward the season of goodwill, he spends a significant part of it ensconced in his room drunk and sobbing. If I even try to MENTION the obvious correlation between his current unhappiness and squandered innocence he threatens to punch me. ... Why is everyone so determined to be worldly?

I'm sorry you've been pitted against Gavin and Stacey because, while I much prefer your programme, my sister will almost certainly insist on watching THAT. It’s better, I suppose, than watching someone who’s been wrongfully encouraged to consider himself a modern equivalent to Dorothy Parker lamely baiting people with personality disorders.

Your words are a list of good.

Nice to hear about BBC2 and Channel4 though for I am the opposite of Mark in Peep Show. I am so not ready for HD...

Have an enjoyable christmas. Oh, and wear one of those paper hats you get out of crackers that my mother always tries to make us wear and we all have to claim we've lost.

Can we have a Blu Ray version of Dead Set please? I could see you releasing it on HD-DVD just to spite people.

Can't wait! Some video games to talk about:

Conker: Live & Reloaded (it's about a squirrel that's hungover and parodies everything, The Matrix, Saving Private Ryan, that stuff, freaking halarious)
Halo
Grand Theft Auto (which I hate)
Some jacked up Nintendo Wii games

I dunno, It'd be entertaining to see.

It doesn't matter when or where you are on, I will be watching!

Just caught up with your brilliant commentary on shows with a mission (with Connie Huq, who was superb!) and I must admit I am beginning to think you should be taught in schools.

Please tell me you'll be presenting the videogames thing as a floating head with a metal eye piece al la Patrick Moore. That would be brill to the max.

As far as the videogames one-off goes, I may just have to shoot myself out of sheer excitment. Since videoGaiden went tits up, I was worried that games journalism on TV would be riddled with utter twats forever.

It was only a matter of time. I noticed a guitar hero controller creeping its way into shot on screenwipe a few weeks ago. Do it.

Cannot wait.

I don't usually bother with gory horror but I was completely hooked on Dead Set. Fantastic telly.

One thing though. Who started the trend for zombies to eat people? I thought that was Ghouls wot did that. Zombies just used to be walking dead summoned from the grave by voodoo didn't they? Although that's a bit dull really I suppose.

Is it just my imagination or was the review of the year really short? I mean I only watched the other review of years on youtube so they seemed really long I suppose... but you spent about 2 minutes on each month! It should have been a 3 hour special! I would have watched that, I watched it on christmas eve aaand new year's eve!
